Hi everyone
just thought i would check this out and ask the question that i would like everyones views on...
i was told the other night that the reason wiccan's wear Black Robes is ....if you mix all the colour's of the rainbow they blend into black.....now i thought of other reasons, however im testing the waters to see how many will reply and give there views and reasons for there beleaf, maybe it's not to conseal themselves in the wood's....anyway let's get this thread going....
Hi Carol, I Love my robes.......
They are very special to me. The Black and Orange of my robes remind me of the Sun and Moon, or Night and Day.......The God and Goddess within us all.
When I wear them I feel really good.....closer to the ' Divineone ' we all seek.

Hi cosmiccaz
Interesting thread! I wear black robes for a couple of reasons.
It's very useful to wear a black robe when you don't want to be seen outside doing 'stuff' at night 😉
Also, for me it is a way of getting into the mood of the ritual work ahead of me, to get into a different state of mind, to put aside my everyday self and become more magickal.
However, I do wear colourful robes or clothes for celebrations as well, but I always use special clothes for ritual and magickal purposes.

I have the same opinion as Moongirl. My reasons are the same, so not much more to add really.
Why black?...well black is my favourite colour alongside purple.
Interesting question though and I will read this thread with interest.
I too am interested to know. I worked in an office and a lady in there was a witch. she wore black all the time, including a black wool cape, sometimes purple, had witch emblems, crystals and runes about her computer, and even had her desktop colour as black with white writing. (very hard to read to me), should have asked her about wearing black at the time really!

If you mix the colours of the rainbow on paper with paint you can get a very dark colour that could be described as black (it helps if there's a bit more red and dark blue than yellow though).
When a shaft of white light is refracted through a prism it breaks up into it's constituent parts, ie the colours of the rainbow. You could say then, that all the colours of the rainbow, when mixed, make white.
Not that this really matters if you like wearing black, just thought I'd throw it in anyway. Also, black's more practical than white out in a muddy field 🙂
