Well the only thing I can see that is misleading is the "from £4.98 per month", when if you go on to read the blurb, you will find it's £2 per month dearer.

FWIW it doesn't surprise me that they've chosen to go down this route: I suppose they're now looking at setting up something like a FHT for those of us on the spiritual side, which FHT doesn't really cover. I can't afford to join it so it looks like I'll have to take it off my list of memberships :((.

You don't have to be a member, but if you are it seems to me you're getting as much for your money as with other such organisations....or is it supposed to be free because it has Spiritual in the name?

Yes it is supposed to be free as stated in it's original constitution. Apparently there is some conflict within the membership about changes being made without calling an EGM to change the constitution.

The original constitution isn't shown on the website, but it does say that it's a not-for-profit self-regulating organisation. It's obviously grown far beyond its' original purpose, offering a lot of benefits....how is it supposed to provide such benefits free of charge I wonder?

We have finished putting together the membership package and here it is:

Individual membership
Prices for individual membership are £90 per year and can be paid upfront by cheque, cash or postal order or can be broken down into more manageable monthly payments and paid by Standing Order. The deposit is £7.80 followed by 12 monthly payments of just £6.85. This represents great value for money and at no extra charge for the convenience of paying monthly

Membership for couples
The price for couples (those who are married or cohabiting) is £135 which represents even better value for money. As with individual membership it can be paid upfront by cheque, cash or postal order or it can be broken down into more manageable monthly payments and paid by standing order. The deposit is £15.60 followed by 12 monthly payments of just £9.95. This represents great value as individually it is equivalent to just £4.98 each per month. Again there is also no extra charge for the convenience of paying monthly.

Standing Order
We chose Standing Order over Direct Debit as this gives you control over the amount, date and duration of your payments. Standing Orders can also be more easily cancelled than Direct Debits. All you need to do is contact your bank and ask them to set up a Standing Order for the relevant amount payable on a date that suits you as long as the frequency is once a month at the stated amount. The SWA bank details to set the Standing Order up are on the membership application forms which will be available on the website early next week or from your Regional Organiser.

Insurance Premiums
Because of the way we now have to provide insurance the Insurance Premiums are a separate cost to actual SWA membership but still represent exceptional value for money. However, the insurance industry has raised insurance prices across the board this year by an average of 7% and the broker has also increased its prices. But we have managed to secure a low rate on your behalf because as a member of the SWA you are agreeing to adhere to the Code of Conduct. The Insurance prices will be posted on the website in the next few days.

Please Note: you have to be a member to take advantage of these low insurance prices and if paying by standing order you will need to maintain the monthly premiums or run the risk of not being covered. If you cancel your SWA membership or let the payments lapse you will not be covered by the insurance company and any premiums paid will be forfeit.

Legal, Accountancy, Health and Safety Advice Help Lines
The help lines are a telephone service that you will need to be a member to use and you are restricted to three telephone enquires per year. This telephone time is equivalent to £120 of free advice.

Although, to a certain extent, these changes were forced upon us, we have come to realise that this will enable the SWA to actually achieve all its stated aims and to give Spiritualistic Service Providers the professional credibility they deserve. With your support the SWA will set the standards for spiritual work for 2009 and beyond and become the organisation that others wish to emulate.

Hi, does this Guild of Spiritual Workers provide insurance cover for Mediums and people who earn a living in the industry. It appears that new laws for spiritual workers mean that they are now exposed to claims of mal practices.

Fees are too expensive, I am disabled and cannot afford that. There appears to be no help for those in need. I am also very disappointed in them with the advertising they did as the end result was substandard and as a former employee of the Law Industry I understand what quality work is. They did an advertisement for me that ended up being illegible as the writing was tiny and hazy. It looked fine on the email but NOT in print. I asked for a refund and did not get it. How can an organisation who say they are protecting its members and yet refuse me a refund. Totally out of order.
