I have to hand it to the Independent, it's not often I see an article on Paganism where the journalist has actually bothered to do some research but this one has (though still slightly adrift on a couple of points). I also like the tone of it particularly after the rubbish that recently appeared in Daily Mail.

Read that this morning, very refreshing indeed.
Nicely written article. I didn't read the Daily Mail ravings to which the writer alludes, but they do sound fairly typical.
However at the end, the Independent piece refers to Jesus (I assume) as "a man [who] was born of a virgin, died and then rose again to teach us all to hate gays".
Jesus never taught anyone to hate gays, in fact I don't think he is ever reported to have expressed any opinions about homosexuality is he? Biblical scholars please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Rachel,
Yes, it's a shame that the author didn't bother to do the same amount of research on Christianity - it makes his otherwise fair and balanced piece fall down and to me, brings in a whiff of old stale air. 🙁
Jesus never taught us to hate anyone - only to love and forgive! Not only did he never mention gays, but he never said women couldn't be church ministers either! (That was all Paul, who was heavily indoctrinated in the old theology of Judaism).
A joyful Solstice to everyone on these pages from me too!
Love and peace,
Judy
