Dear All
well yesterday bumped into a friend who is working in Libya and he is learning about Islam and he said that the prophet never recorded a single word and all was written down by his followers much later.
Why is it that an educated man never wrote it himself?
Why is that Master Jesus never wrote it down himself?
Does make one wonder sometimes.

Actually, the Prophet Mohammed recieved messages from God from angel Gabriel, the verses of the Qu'ran are presented in such a way that they are poetry, he learned a chunk at a time by heart, he would then uimmediately reveal it to his wife and friends. They also would learn it and record it. This process carried on over a period of twenty years, so the information was always accurate and not second hand.
Our Prophet was not really an educated man, he is described to have been intelligent, articulate but he was certainly not a scholar.
As a young man he was raised by his grandfather as his parents died, his grandad was a merchant and he helped him in this work, ie in caravan trade, he then accepted employment from his future wife in the same trade.
Mohamed and Jesus were both great teachers, they were vocal in their teaching, they spoke in front of audiences, this is what they did, others wrote it down. However, in Prophet Mohamed's case this was much nearr to the time of recieving the message,

RE: Qu'ran is it true?
Also, why do you think the Qu'ran should not be true?
RE: Qu'ran is it true?
Muslims believe that the wording of Qur'anic text that we have today is identical to that spoken by Muhammad himself; created by God and delivered to Muhammad through Gabriel. Muhammad is supposed to have only delivered the Qur'an in spoken form during his lifetime; the word "Qur'an" (repertoire) is suitably translated as "recital" indicating that it cannot exist as merely a text. To ensure they remembered the text thoroughly, the faithful were required to (and many still do) memorize passages perfectly, down to the last syllable, and recite them frequently. A person whose recital repertoire encompasses the whole Quran is called a Qari'
According to the dominant tradition, Muhammad's companions began recording all the Suras in writing before Muhammad died in 632 CE. Thus Muslims proudly cite, two different mechanisms were in place -- oral and written -- to help ensure that no corruption of the text took place over time.
RE: Qu'ran is it true?
Dear Halimah
Apologies I did not mean is the Qu'ran true but was it true that the prophet never wrote it down himself. I must have been in a rush.
They must have had amazing memories, I can't remember exactly word for word what I received last week from spirit let alone a few months ago. I have to write it down while I am receiving it and refer back as and when. Although the classic one liners are a lot easier to remember e.g. "You are sacred and a treasure to behold, count your blessings as if you are counting gold" "To honour another means to pay homage to their sacred divinity" "It is through respect that one finds gratitude' Quan Yin
and
"Self development is about teaching the soul to fly! You may make this into a meditation and expand upon the concept'. "Perception is an illusion that has no basis in reality" Archangel Michael.
But that's me no head for facts and memorising we all have our strengths and weaknesses and my strength is definitely not for words sadly. Although a selective memory and empty head can be useful at times!
Big smiles and Reiki hugs!
Love beyond measure

Quran 17:36 'You shall not accept any information, unless you verify it for yourself. I have given you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brain, and you are responsible for using them.'
That's a good quote Hugo, thanks for that, important too I think. Islam is a thinking, learning religion, it is down to earth, it is about people and their lives in very simple ways as well as more complex ways. I think this spirit of using your common sense is apparent all the way, I believe we are encouraged to become thinkers and work things out and not just follow blindly.
Also, if people just follow other people's ideas they will often end up going wrong.
