Hi all,
One of the most sacred treasures of Sanatana Dharma, the Rama Setu, is facing destruction.
This is the land bridge that according to the Ramayana was built to enable Rama to reach Sri Lanka and rescue Sita.
A project to dredge the sea channel and thereby destroy the precious heritage is under way. More details here:
If you agree that the setu needs to be preserved at least as a World heritage and to avoid damaging precious coral reefs, then please support the e-petition on that page.
Some further info on the Setu here:

This excerpt is a useful summary:
" the Rama’s Bridge should not be touched for demolition. It might/might not be a religious site, but it is certainly beyond even what we call as “precious”. It is a natural phenomenon which has surprised scientists and geologists by its sheer existence.
If Indian government tries demolishing Rama’s bridge for enabling a shipping canal project, I might probably even think that the government might take Qutab Minar off the place because it disrupts traffic. I do not think the UPA government would want themselves to be equated with the Taliban who destroyed Bamiyan Budhas while the whole world witnessed. In both cases of Taliban and UPA government the action is the same, destroying of world heritage, while only the motive is different."
Thank you for patiently reading this.

Prashna, I found this article on the BBC website recently.
This is fascinating. You may already know that the story of Ramayana is as prominent in Thai culture as it is in Indian. My husband has explained to me the story in full and it is interesting to see it painted on the walls of the Temples in Bangkok (rather than the story of Gautama).

Hi Lotusflower,
At long last, I and my wonderful wife have had the good fortune to visit Thailand about two years ago.
Thailand it may well be, today!
But, it was called the Siam, before, and not for nothing.
I have had the good fortune to see with these mortal eyes Gaduda celebrated in almost every Thai temple I visited!
And Hindu Puranas celebrated in the Royal yachts in Bangkok!
And Hanuman. Yes, and even RAvana.
What can I say about the TathAgata, that has not been said a thousand times before!
Or even more!
Yes, I would love to say it, if I had the wisdom that was there in even in just one toenail clipping of the ShAkyaMuni.
But I do not.
So all I can say is this:
Buddham sharanam gatchAmi.
Regards.
