Hi Tulip,

Raksha Bandhan is a lovely annual celebration of the bond of love and protection between a brother and his sister. It originates from the tale of Indrani tying a sacred thread around her husband's wrist to protect him in battle against demons. Whilst these days the emphasis is on syblings celebrating the strength of their relationship, it's also possible for a rakhee (the band) to be sent to those whom you respect. The sister always ties the band on the brother, whilst a brother will offer his sister a present.

You can read a little more about the festival if you [link= http://festivals.iloveindia.com/rakhi/history-of-rakhi.html ]click here[/link].

love and light,

Cub

The festival is a Hindu festival and is also a secular festival which celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters. The festival is also popularly used to celebrate any brother-sister relationship between men and women who are relatives or biologically unrelated
