Hi Friends,
Today we celiberated the birthday of Lord Krishna popularly known as Janmashtmi or Gopala Kala. There was no holiday for offices but during the lunch time I went to see how various groups make pyramids and then break the "Dahi Handi". It was fun watching it

According to the Hindu lunar calendar Lord Krishna was born on the eighth day (called Ashtami) of the second (dark) fortnight of the month of Shravana. It is believed that he incarnated at the end of Dwapar Yuga and the beginning of the present era i.e. Kali Yuga.

I find Lord Krishna very close to my heart for many reasons. His wisdom Bhagvat Gita is so relavant and useful in the modern age. Daily I read at least one chapter of Bhagvat Gita and every time I read I get some more meaning, some more relavance.

The story about his birth can be found at [link= http://www.sanatan.org/en/campaigns/KJ/birth.htm. ]http://www.sanatan.org/en/campaigns/KJ/birth.htm.[/link]

Namaste Bipin

Thank you for this. I wondered what part of India you live in?

I had a look at your blog and found it very informative.

RE: Birthday of Lord Krishna

Namaste again Bipin

I am from Maharashtra.

Unfortunately, this is not a part of India I know well. I have spent a lot of time in the South, mainly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. I have travelled a little in the North - to see the Taj Mahal (of course!) and also to Jaipur, Varanasi and up to Almora and Rishikesh, so I have passed through Delhi a few times. I love India - it is very much my spiritual home. for want of a better way of expressing it, I am a 'born again' Hindu; I am very much at home worshipping in a Hindu temple. Mine is the path of bhakti. My guru is Mata Amritanandamayi and my home from home is Tiruvannamalai and the ashram of Bhagwan Sri Ramana Maharshi.

I do hope you will continue to post on this forum.
