The film 'adi shankaracarya' - the onlymovie ever made in Sanskrit, is available to watch in its entirety on google video. I would highly recommend its viewing to everyone.
Subtitles are provided, though I would say they are at quite a remove from the actual dialogue.
A masterpiece all the same.
Enjoy!

The Shankara video link is about three quarter of the way down.
Under Aham Brahmashmi ; the opening line of the Brahma Sutras.
Many other fascinating videos in that site. Very much worth persevering.
Enjoy.

RE: adi shankaracarya video
Hi all,
Brother Shankara has mentioned an invaluable resource.
For those not familiar with Adi Shankaracharyya, here is probably the most authoritative site:
[link= http://sankaracharya.org/ ] http://sankaracharya.org/ [/link]
You might wish to have a look at his biography and then the page on Advaita Vedanta.
Then just look at whatever takes your fancy. If I HAD to pick one of his works, it would be Bhaja Govindam (also called Moha Mudgaram). This has been a favourite of mine for only 55 years.

RE: adi shankaracarya video
Prashnaji,
Lovely to hear from you again. Thank you for providing the abovelinks and doing the technical work I can't. I'm slowlylearning!
Isn't it a shame how some persons (usually vaishnavas of a certain school)willfully misinterpretthe beautiful work of bhaja govindam by arguing adi shankara upheld the supremacy of Visnu? The acarya of course was beyond such ideas of hierarchy and dualism, and was thus equallyat home singing the praises of Govinda, as he was Siva or Ganga Ma.
What puzzles me, is that these very same detractors argue also that Shankaracarya was a crypto-Buddhists. He couldhardly be both!
Well, what to do?
Thank you though for mentioning again that most rare of gems, the Bhaja Govindam. I shall now be humming it all day. Come to think of it, I have an old tape somewhere of M S Subbulakshmi singing it. Might go find it.
Regards,
Shankar.

Prashnaji,

Brother Shankara, <ok>
For accuracy in response, I have taken the liberty to number your post. I hope you will not mind.
1. Indeed. And here is the devastating response, not so readily available in India, perhaps. A COMPLETE listing of Acharya's works; I suggest you print it out if you can and refer to it to refute such nonsense when you encounter it:
[link= http://www.advaita-vedanta.org/texts/shankara_works.html ] http://www.advaita-vedanta.org/texts/shankara_works.html [/link]
Let's see now:
EXCLUDING the many Bhasyas(Brahma Sutra onwards) and philosophical works (Viveka Chudamani, Aparokshanubhuti etc.)
In praise of
Ganesha x 3
Shiva x 18
Shakti x 19
Vishnu and His Avatars x 13
Other Deities and Tirths x 12
Is that definitive or what?
2. Crypto- Buddhist indeed!
Ask ANY Buddhist to sing a hymn in praise of all these deities and the reaction should be sufficient answer to that ridiculous allegation.
3.No need to search for the tape. Here it is. You can listen to it, provided you have a fast Broadband connection:

RE: adi shankaracarya video
Well put, indeed.
I can add nothing, but merely echo those beautiful words from totakastakam:
bhava shankara deshika me sharanam.
bhava shankara deshika me sharanam.
Hi Prashna 🙂
This might be a bit off the topic. I have watched "Adi Shankaracharya" movie and I do have a VCD of the same. I really liked the potrayal of Adi Shankara by Sarvadaman Banerjee, quite a talented actor, lent credibility to the role. Is he still around in movies or atleast in Bengali movies? Haven't seen any of his other works in ages.
Kind Regards
Isa
