Hi, I'm looking for the meaning of 'Shantu'. So far thru googling, I've found it linked to Buddhism, Indian names (usually male but sometimes female), used as part of some mantras I can't translate, seemingly a conferred title of some sort and the name of an instrument in Nigeria! 🙂

I thought I'd ask here since it does seem to be linked to spiritual/religious terms.... and no, it isn't 'shanti' spelt wrong. 😉

PS.... It's okay, I found out! LOL :D:D Typical... as soon as you post a question, the answer pops up!

Hi Azalia,

Shantu means 'absolute quietude'. 🙂 Isn't that nice? It's a hindu word. Shantu is one of the 13 Rasas or emotions... if memory serves me.... unfortunately I seem to have forgotten to mark the site in my favourites....as usual. 🙂

Yes, that is beautiful.

The good news now of course, is that whenever anyone googles Shantu, they've got a direct link to here telling them what it means, rather than having to spend ages trawling the web!
