Regaled in the best finery touring with massive pomp and ceremony in huge magnificent buildings it makes me wonder sometimes where the church is going (actually this is not about the Pope alone, it is a general issue), and I wonder what Jesus would say.....(and it does matter)
Actually he said:
"But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments."Matthew 23:5
So given that this was the advice he gave, in no uncertain terms how is it that things have got so out of hand?

It was ever thus, Chris. Look at the wealth and trappings of the medieval monasteries and their abbots.
Yes Sunanda,
Having said that I am enjoying the visit, I like all the young people that are involved and it is a great chance for them - I'm not Catholic but I would enjoy seeing or even meeting him. I like the way the other religious groups are joining in, though I think the 'agressive athiests' are having a field day.

Church has nothing to do with Christ. Any organised religion has nothing to do with God. Infact they are the farthest from God. That is how things have got so out of hand - utter absence of Truth.

Ouch - that's a bit sweeping isn't it Jnani?
Love and peace,

It may be a little sweeping but there is a lot of truth in the statement!
