Just would like to share something that is coming up for me in a couple of weeks.

Some readers of the Christian forum may remember that I went on the Alpha course earlier this year and struggled quite a lot with it. I wouldn't say I was a sceptic, but I didn't feel I really got the answer to alot of my questions and was convinced I would never be able to call myself a Christian.

To cut a long story short, however, following the course I started to attend church regularly and have come to feel very at home as a Christian.

In a couple of weeks time (31st October ) I will be reaffirming my baptism vows at a special service ( I was baptised when I was a baby) and I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I had never heard of this and didn't realise that you could do it until our vicar brought up the subject. There are six of us who have decided to take part and I really think it is going to be a special day.

I haven't told many people about it and still feel a bit shy about it all (if you knew me you would know how truly weird that concept was), but after taking a deep breath I decided to post about it here.

That's it. Thanks for listening.

Well, congratulations Rachel – I’m really glad for you! 🙂

My first thought though was, “Does she realise what she’s agreeing to?” as I remembered the very high church (and old liturgy) christening of two children of some relatives. It seemed to be all about how they had been born into sin and could only be purified and saved through the ceremony of baptism. However, I did a search and it appears that it no longer has to be so dogmatic. I found these websites:

(Curious about what you are going to be asked with the question, “Do you reject…?”)

I'm sure you are going to have a wonderful day!

Love and peace,

Judy

Thank you so much Judy. You are always so thoughtful in your replies and have been a great help to me on my journey. I still have the lovely books you gave me in my bedroom "pile" of books to refer to!

We have had a long meeting with our vicar who has guided us through what it is we are agreeing to / affirming and what will happen on the day and I feel as prepared as I can be! Apparently it is a service that is becoming much more common in the Church of England, especially amongst more evangelical churches, as it becomes less common to be confirmed. I didn't know this.

Anyway, thank you so much for your good wishes. As you would expect though, it is not the end of my questions.......
