Hi All,

Some time ago, there was a thread that dealt with those songs that had meant a great deal spiritualy to us. I put 'Lord of the Dance' as my elect. I have been dreamily (it's late) thumbing through Google and came across references to 'The Dancing Saviour'. These in turn led me to the Gnostic Gospel of the Acts of John and the following Hymn of Jesus, performed, according to John in the from of a ringed dance. I give you

The Hymn of the Lord
Which He Sang in Secret to the Holy Apostles, His Disciples

XCVI

Now before he was taken by the lawless Jews, who also were governed by the lawless serpent, he gathered all of us together and said: Before I am delivered up unto them let us sing an hymn to the Father, and so go forth to that which lieth before us. He bade us therefore make as it were a ring, holding one another's hands, and himself standing in the midst he said: Answer Amen unto me. He began, then, to sing an hymn and to say:

Glory be to thee, Father.

And we, going about in a ring, answered him: Amen.

Glory be to thee, Word: Glory be to thee, Grace. Amen.
Glory be to thee, Spirit: Glory be to thee, Holy One:
Glory be to thy glory. Amen.

We praise thee, O Father; we give thanks to thee, O Light, wherein darkness dwelleth not. Amen.

Now whereas we give thanks, I say:
I would be saved, and I would save. Amen.
I would be loosed, and I would loose. Amen.
I would be wounded, and I would wound. Amen.
I would be born, and I would bear. Amen.
I would eat, and I would be eaten. Amen.
I would hear, and I would be heard. Amen.
I would be thought, being wholly thought. Amen.
I would be washed, and I would wash. Amen.
Grace danceth. I would pipe; dance ye all. Amen.
I would mourn: lament ye all. Amen.

The number Eight (ogdoad) singeth praise with us. Amen.
The number Twelve danceth on high. Amen.
The Whole on high hath part in our dancing. Amen.
Whoso danceth not, knoweth not what cometh to pass. Amen.

I would flee, and I would stay. Amen.
I would adorn, and I would be adorned. Amen.
I would be united, and I would unite. Amen.
A house I have not, and I have houses. Amen.
A place I have not, and I have places. Amen.
A temple I have not, and I have temples. Amen.

A lamp am I to thee that beholdest me. Amen.
A mirror am I to thee that perceivest me. Amen.
A door am I to thee that knockest at me. Amen.
A way am I to thee a wayfarer. .

Now answer thou unto my dancing.
Behold thyself in me who speak, and seeing what I do, keep silence about my mysteries.

Thou that dancest, perceive what I do, for thine is this passion of the manhood, which I am about to suffer. For thou couldest not at all have understood what thou sufferest if I had not been sent unto thee, as the word of the Father. Thou that sawest what I suffer sawest me as suffering, and seeing it thou didst not abide but wert wholly moved, moved to make wise. Thou hast me as a bed, rest upon me.

Who I am, thou shalt know when I depart. What now I am seen to be, that I am not. Thou shalt see when thou comest. If thou hadst known how to suffer, thou wouldest have been able not to suffer. Learn thou to suffer, and thou shalt be able not to suffer. What thou knowest not, I myself will teach thee. Thy God am I, not the God of the traitor. I would keep tune with holy souls. In me know thou the word of wisdom. Again with me say thou:

Glory be to thee, Father;
Glory to thee, Word;
Glory to thee, Holy Spirit.

And if thou wouldst know concerning me, what I was, know that with a word did I deceive all things and I was no whit deceived. I have leaped: but do t

RE: Dance of the Lord

A friend has posted me a variation of the Gnostic Gospel Hymn or Dance of Jesus. This version is very interesting because it is from a book about Jung, the most spiritual of psychologists and his interest in the Dead Sea Scrolls:

Jung and the Lost Gospels ~ Insights into the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Library. By Stephan A. Hoeller

The Dancing Savior

Glory to Thee, Father!
(and the disciples moving around in a circle answered him)
Amen! Glory to Thee.
Charis (Grace)! Glory to thee Spirit!
Glory to Thee Holy One!
Glory to Thy Glory! Amen!
We praise Thee, O Father;
We give thanks to Thee, O Light;
In Whom Darkness dwells not! Amen!
For what we would give thanks, I say:
I would be saved; and I would save. Amen!
I would be loosed’ and I would loose. Amen!
I would be broken; and I wish to give birth. Amen!
I would eat; and I would be eaten. Amen!
I would hear; and I would be heard. Amen!
I would understand; and I would be understood. Amen!
I would be washed; and I would wash. Amen!
Now Charis is dancing.
I would play on the pipes; dance all of you. Amen!
I would play a song of mourning; lament all of you. Amen!
The eight sings praises with us. Amen!
Those that dance not, know not what cometh to pass. Amen!
I would flee; and I would stay. Amen!
I would be adorned; and be adorned. Amen!
I would be at-oned; and I would at-one. Amen!
I have no house; and I have houses. Amen!
I have no place; and I have places. Amen!
I have no temple; and I have temples. Amen!
I am a lamp to thee who seest. Amen!
I am a mirror to thee who understandest me. Amen!
I am a door to those who knockest at me. Amen!
I am a way to thee a wayfarer. Amen!
Now answer to my dancing!
See thyself in me who speak;
And seeing what I do, keep silence on my mysteries.

Understand by dancing, what I do;
For thine is the passion of man
That I am to suffer.
Thou couldst not all be aware
Of what thou dost suffer,
If I were not sent as the Logos by he father.
Seeing that I suffer, thou sawest me suffering;
And seeing, thou didst no stand still,
But wast moved greatly, thou wast moved to be wise.
Thou hast me for a couch; rest thou upon me.
What I am thou shalt know when I depart.
What now I AM seen to be, that I AM not.

But what I AM thou shalt see when thou comest.
If thou hadst known how to suffer,
Thou wouldst have power not to suffer.
Know then how to suffer, then thou will have the power not to suffer.
That which thou knowest not, I myself will instruct thee.
I AM God, no the betrayers’.
I would be kept in time with holy souls.
In me know thou the Logos of Sophia.
Say thou to me again:
Glory to Thee, Father! Glory to Thee, Logos!
Glory to Thee Holy Spirit!
But as for me, if thou wouldst know who I was:
In a word I AM the Logos who did dance all things, and who was not ashamed at all.
It was I who danced.
But do thou understand all, and understanding, say:
Glory to Thee Father!± Amen!

RE: Dance of the Lord

Dear All

Yes I can truly recommend the books and the Gospel of Philip has also inspired me and confirmed all that I have been receiving from spirit over many months about the Brides of Christ.

Master Jesus so loves to dance and Archangel Michael preferred dance track is from the King and I 'Shall we dance'. The Dancing Savior

The first Archangel Michael ‘Teachng the Soul to Fly’ workshop was held in 2002 and he asked that we end the workshop with a track from the film the ‘King and I’ called ‘Shall we dance’ . At the time I thought it was a strange request but I trusted him and everyone really loved it.

Following the first workshop I discovered that Master Jesus loved to dance and that references were removed from the bible due to Rome calling it a pagan act. I have also learnt recently that in one Greek papyrus we read "Come to me, Thou who are greatest in heaven, to him whom heaven gave him a dancing ground". Thus, the higher divinities are often envisioned as dancers who dance the world into existence. Similarly, the religious dance was the capacity to so enrapture the devotees that they joyously dance through the gates of initiation into the supernal aeons. The dance is as an instrumentality of establishing contact with Divinity was still known in the middle ages. Where the German mystic Mechtild of Magdeburg (1212-1277) in her poem Der Minne Wag (The Way of Love") tells us of a dialog between the maiden and her Lord.

The Lord commands:
"Maiden, dance as deftly as my elect have danced before' and the maiden replies:
I would not dance, Lord, unless you leadest me.
Wouldst thou that I leap mightily,
Then thou must sing for me,
Thus will I leap into love,
From love into knowledge,
From knowledge into joy,
From joy beyond all human senses.

I call this state of being ‘BLISS’

For those that do not dance have not experienced true joy.

Really must dance off HP and get ready for this weekend.

So let us twirl around and sing at the tops of our voices the sound of Christ and Unity Consciousness.

RE: Dance of the Lord

Hi all, to bring this 'heavenly' discussion down to earth....

One of the cunning acts of my predatory youth, was to learn Ballroom Dancing.. I managed to get my Gold Medal!!

It proved to be not only a great 'totty attractor' (met the missus at a dance), but ever since, whenever we can, we indulge in a bout of the fancy footwork.. not the rock variety, though that is fun, but the Waltz and my favourite, the Quickstep...

Our quickstep, is a thing of beauty or terror, if you happen to be in our way......

I would dearly love to dance the Quick Waltz of the King and I, but alas the old tikker won't let me....

Moving your body, expressing your joy in spatial form in synchronisity to sound and music, may be called pagen , but I think the above posts show it has Devine precedence.

RE: Dance of the Lord

The Dervish pracitise of a whirling meditation 'dance' which I've seen done by a group of men I used to know is very exciting to watch as the energy becomes charged

Many Sufi schools use movement and dance as part of their spiritual endeavors. In fact, it appears that all indigenous cultures have used sacred dance to reverence the Divine and to facilitate ecstatic states. Recent research indicates that Jesus taught the Apostles to dance to the Aramaic phrases of the Lord's Prayer. The movie director Franco Zefferelli depicts this in his film "Jesus of Nazareth."

Ah, yes, Astra, a dear friend of mine is learning Reiki with a Sufi Master, ( or is that Master Reiki with a Sufi, sorry) and she is also being taught the dancing which apparently can go hand in hand with this form of Reiki. She tells me it is freeing and enlightening.

RE: Dance of the Lord

Dear Gillyann

that sounds truly wonderful

it is fantastic that people from all races, cultures and religions are teaching Reiki around the globe and adding their own love to what I call the love vibration.

The Sufi's sure do seem to come from the heart of GOD and I am most impressed!

We live in exciting times when all paths are bringing us together in oneness with the source.

RE: Dance of the Lord

dear all

this seems to be the appropriate thread as master Jesus sings about his suffering.
Venetian infers on another thread that Jesus did not suffer from human emotion because he was not human. From the above song and from other gospels that I have read this is clearly not the case and Hugo thought it would be interesting to discuss this further.

got to go

RE: Dance of the Lord

Interesting that Shiva also known as Lord of the Dance

Shiva as Lord of the Dance color
SOURCE: Steven Kossak, The Arts of South and Southeast Asia, (New York: Metropolitan Museum of Art, nd. repr. from Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin (Spring 1994)), p.45

DESCRIPTION:Shiva as Lord of Dance (Nataraja). Copper alloy, 26 7/7 in high.
PROVENANCE: India (Tamil Nadu), Chola period, circa late 11th century CE. MMA item no 1987.80.1
[This has nothing to do with Chinese culture, but this is a classic case where, without any background, the image is simply impressive, but with a little background it becomes overwhelming. The background here is that Shiva is not just dancing, but treading down on evil and, literally, offering up a foot for human beings to hold onto. In other words, it is a salvation icon!]

I have a poster of this purchased at the Musuem of Religion in Glasgow which is well worth a visit. A friend and I spent hours there.

RE: Dance of the Lord

I have enjoyed a wonderful time today dancing free as a bird hence this post.

Man as ever searched for more expressive forms of communication with the transcendent. Thus religious dance has been found to supplement, even replace, speech. Throughout the East, sacred dancers were a prominent feature in religious worship; in Egypt, colleges of female dancers and singers were annexed to certain shrines. Many of these religious dances consisted of slow and stately processions through the streets of the city or around the altar. In the old testement, dancing was an adjunct of worship, a practice probably borrowed from neighbouring people.

"Thus Miriam took a timbrel and danced" (Exodus 15:20-21)

And David on the recovery of the ark "danced with all his might before the Lord" (2 Kings 6:14) It is also clear from many passages in the psalms that dancing formed part of the liturgy of the Temple.

In early Christian times dancing was a part of the celebration of the vigils of martyrs as the people thus expressed their joy in the church of the martyr's tomb. (Perhaps this is where the saying 'dancing on one's grave comes from)

In the Middle Ages the practice developed in combinng more closely dance and formal worship, especially during the chief liturgical seasons. Even until the present, dancing before the high altar in Seville cathedral takes place on the feasts of the Immaculate
Conception, Corpus Christi, and in Shrovetide.
