Hi,
As usual I've organised my holiday myself, booked the flights, the hotel, the transfer, but now comes the sticky issue of travel insurance. My partneris type-2 diabetic, well managed, plus a couple of other medical problems but the diabetes seems to be the sticking point. As soon as it is metnioned the cover practically doubles in price!
Does anyone know of a good travel insurance policy that doesn't cost the earth? His diabetes hasn't caused any problems since he was diagnosed 4 years ago so we're happy to have a policy that doesn't cover existing medical conditions - our main worry is if we lose our luggage or if one of us breaks a bone or something silly like that!
Hope someone can help.
Amber
RE: Travel insurance and diabetes
You can apply for a EHIC card which covers you with NHS cover within certain contries and gets you treatment at a lower cost if needed.

RE: Travel insurance and diabetes
Hi Lizzi,
Thanks for that, it is helpful for medical cover, but what I'm looking for is a policy that will cover us for baggage loss, medical cover for non-existing conditions and accidents and repatriation in case of accident.
The trouble is that the insurance companies ask about existing medical conditions and once you mention diabetes then either they won't cover you or they want to slap a huge premium on you. I'm happy to have a policy that doesn't cover existing medical conditions as it's unlikely that they would cause any problems anyway, and if I'm honest I'm far more concerned about what happens if we lose our luggage!

RE: Travel insurance and diabetes
My mother has a heart condition so0 it cost a fortune to insure her so we use this card and take out geeral insurance not including health to cover for baggage loss etc and it only costs about 10 for a week
RE: Travel insurance and diabetes
Where do you get the "general insurance not including health"? That sounds like it's exactly what I'm looking for but I can't seem to find anyone who'll do it!
Thanks.

RE: Travel insurance and diabetes
Hello Amber
My son has a heart condition so we've faced this problem every year when looking for travel insurance. For the last 5 years or so I've used:
[link= http://www.24drtravel.com/eshop/pti/health_conditions.asp ]http://www.24drtravel.com/eshop/pti/health_conditions.asp[/link]
There prices and services have always been good, as long as your not going against medical advice by travelling then your covered.
Hope this helps & happy hol's
