Hi, has anyone stayed at Prested Hall near Colchester or had any friends/work colleagues talk about the place, ie is it nice to stay at. I have looked on trip advisor and generally reviews are good, the only negatives seem to be that the restaurant is only open if there are a minumum of 6 people staying there and is a very limited menu of 3/4 choices (there's only 11 bedrooms, so small place). Anywhere else you can recommend to stay, looking for nice hotel, must have indoor pool.

so next question can anyone recommend a nice restaurant near there for an evening meal, British, Chinese, Thai or Indian. Looking to stay overnight in/near Colchester on the way back from Bedfordshire as part of a birthday celebration (the person's birthday is on the night that are looking to stay in Essex).

thank you

Hi Atlanticpearl

I've not stayed there and don't know how the prices etc compare, but have you looked at five lakes hotel which is not far from Colchester. Stayed there a couple of months ago with my mum on a spa day and it was lovely. It has an indoor pool and the restaurant was superb we couldn't fault a thing. Might be worth a look but not sure if it's in the right location etc but I would highly recommend it

Have a great time wherever you stay.

Prested Hall

Great place under independent ownership with none of that big chain feel

Have been there for pool events and work conferences. Friendly and cosy.

Food is excellent and the pool area is great for a good swim and a chance to see/play real tennis.

We often go there for the Swim & Lunch

Cannot comment on the availability of food when not many staying although the gym has food available most of the time.

Hi Jane.

I used to work as a PT in the gym at Prested Hall and have been there for my niece's wedding reception. It is a lovely place with nice grounds and the food at the reception was very good. And the staff are very nice, too. I haven't stayed there, though, or eaten in the restaurant, but have used the lovely pool.

In my opinion, the best Chinese restaurant in the area is the China Chef in Crouch Street in Colchester where the food and service is excellent, and the Na Ree Thai restaurant on North Hill, Colchester is first class, too.

I live in Wivenhoe, very close to Colchester, so if you want any more info on local places let me know.

I hope you enjoy your stay wherever you go!

(ps - the seeds you sent are growing well, thanks!!)
