I'm thinking of going to Ibiza next month for a week - have found some good deals online so am very tempted! I'm a female thinking of going on my own due to friends and family having their own plans this year and unfortunately my boyfriend has a chronic illness and isn't well enough to travel.

I was just wondering if any of you know Ibiza and could advise me......I quite fancy the resort of Es Cana - it looks peaceful and beautiful. There is a hippy market there once a week and is near other resorts (that I could visit). I'd also love to get the boat to Formentera. So my question is - do you think Es Cana is a good choice?

I'm quite comfortable on my own but would hate to be seomwhere that I'd feel conspicuous. I went to Palma in Majorca on my own four years ago and was completely fine there, there was lots to do and by the end i was just happy to lie by the pool with a good book!!!

Thanks for reading 🙂

Hi Karen

I lived in Ibiza ooh nearly 40 years ago(!) and I thought it was a magical island. Since then I've no doubt it's seen a lot of developing and building and has become the clubbing centre of Europe! However Es Cana, as you say, is on the quieter side and in fact is the first place I ever stayed when I went for a holiday before moving there. I think you'd be fine...and you'd enjoy the nearby bigger town of Santa Eulalia too. Funnily enough I have Ibiza very much in the forefront of my mind at the minute as I've found some of my old buddies from way back then via Facebook. One of them, who's now in his early 60s, like me, is a musician and plays in a duo at some of the hotels. His little band is called Me and Him so if you do go, and if you catch their act, say a big hello from me. Of course, I could always ask Pepe for some recommendations for you if you'd like me to.
I am very jealous - I am longing to go back there. Have a lovely time if you do decide to go.

Hello Karen, How sad your boyfriend is ill I do hope he improves soon. Ibiza is a nice place to go for a holiday, we stayed right up North, Portinax, I would not recommend there quite honestly though. As you say Es Cana is fine but like Sunanda I think Santa Eulalia is probably nicer altogether.
Playa De Bossa (or something like that) is very near the airport and I have been told that aircraft noise is quite bad. I am not so sure I would want to go to San Antonio Town either, possibly a bit too noisy for me.

Ibiza town is also a nice place to visit and apparently you need to go there to get a bus anywhere on the Island. We did go to Formentera on the boat and as it is nice and flat we hired bikes - stumbled across a nudist beach on our travels there 😮

We are off to a place called Isla Canela next week in the Costa del la Luz, never been there before but it does sound nice and we can visit some interesting places, Seville, Cadiz.

I stayed at Calla Llonga 2 years ago, we stayed right on the beach and the ferry came to pick people up to go to the hippy market.

I think anywhere in Ibiza would be fine, and think its probably best to go to the quieter resorts.

Playa de bossa I thought was scruffy, we had a daytrip to the waterpark there.

St Antonia Bay also looked nice but busier. We got a taxi to Ibiza town in the evening and there was a charming market but away from the boat moorings it looked scruffy and rough. there was a boat taxi to Ibiza town.

I think a week would be enough in a smaller place.Taxis weren't that cheap though so plan carefully.

Strangely enough, since replying to this thread I find myself booked to spend a week in Es Cana myself in the middle of July. I shall be sharing an apartment with a German woman who now lives in Mexico. She was one of my 'family' when I lived in Ibiza nearly 40 years ago and I have found her again via Facebook. The apartment has been found for us by another old friend, the Spanish musician whom I mentioned in my post above. Isn't life strange?

Hello Karenrat...Hope you enjoy yourself.. I cannot give any advice as I am not an international traveller...however I hope it turns out for you, and you too realise your wishes. 🙂
