Hi,

My wife and I are hoping to go to Goa next March for our honeymoon. Has anyone here been there?

We're happy with a B&B arrangement, as we want to sample as much of the local cuisine as possible. Any recommendations regarding B&B places would be appreciated, as would recommendations for "shacks"/restaurants.

We are also thinking of flying premier class with Thomsons, has anyone any experience of this, and is it worth the extra cash, or would we be better off flying normnal class and staying in a slightly better hotel?

Many thanks

Andy.

Hi Yorkman,

Just thought I'd give you a little run down on Goa. I went nearly two years ago and it was brilliant. The beaches, the food the people are great and I cannot wait to go back and bring my children this time.

If you go to Baga, there is a restaurant called East meets West, and it is just a little bit of heaven. Its set in gardens with lights in the trees, can be very romantic, and the chefs cook amazing food. As you are going for your honeymoon, i doubt your wife would be disappointed with this place. The waiters are attentive and if you like to have a laugh they will give you great banter.

We used the shack at St.Anthony's and there was never a problem there and again the people were great. It can be quite busy at this end though as there are a lot of jet-skis and watersports. If you go early in the morning say 6ish the boys will bring you out to see the dolphins and you can jump in with them for next to nothing. There a good bunch of boys there, always polite and respectful.
I'd highly recommend doing the elephant jungle tour where you spend the night in the jungle and then go to the temple in the morning, I've forgotten the place at the mo, but will post it later. It was an amazing trip. There was also the waterfall trip. There is so much to do really, you can get overwhelmed I guess its just down to what you'd like to do.
Overall, I think you've picked an amazing destination for your honeymoon. It is such a beautiful place and I wish you and your future wife every happiness in the world! (sorry, assume your getting married!)
All the best and have a great honeymoon.
Am so jealous even thinking about it! hahaha:D

As an ex-hippy I wouldn't dream of going near Goa today. But it depends what kind of experience you want, I suppose. I like the real India, and it can be tough. But I have to admit that, having a partner who has never been to India, I realised Goa or somewhere like it is the only option: otherwise one is talking of days of overland travel, Delhii Belly maybe ....

But I so miss Goa and many parts of India as they once were.

The Israelis are now moving into the East Bank of Hampi, and all the locals are appalled at that: they marry Indian women then set up hotels.

Sorry to be on a downer 🙂 but I so miss India as once it was.

I had been to Goa five years back. I like the temples, churches and beaches there. What interested me more is fish recipes.
