Hello, just wondering if anyone has ever been here and what you think?
We are looking at a hotel there called Riu Atlantico, we have seen it on trip advisor and it does appear to have good reports but interesting to know what people on here have to say about it.

Thanks

Hi Jeannie.

I don't personally know that hotel, only RIU hotel I have stayed in was in Bendalmena Costa Del Sol (over impression of that one I would have rated as a 3* official rating 4*), nice sized rooms/balcony built around a courtyard, etc. Downside for me was their restaurant, as a non-meat eater the restaurant was buffet and for people having fish, rather then a decent piece of fish, it was like bits of it, ok its buffet you can eat what you like, but I like a decent piece, rather than bits of about 1 oz each! um), anyway who had meat it was always proper sized portions.

You mentioned trip advisor and that's a great site, I also put my reviews of hotels, restaurants there. I think if anyone has any negatives on the site usually they have them because something they didn't like etc, like their room didn't get the sun, etc, etc

I have been to CDL, but that was about 10 years ago when the area was just being developed (at the time I was on holiday in Portugal stayed at Monte Gordo/Algarve) and it was quite non touristy....perhaps some other HP's have been more recent and can give you a better update on what's there, etc.

as to the hotel from what I can gather from their website - the hotel is quite seculed...is this what you really want from a holiday? it could be good if you just want to chill.....I don't know what websites you have looked at but here are links to the hotel

At least the hotel has a small indoor pool (the one I stayed in only had an outdoor pool and with 21 days of heavy rain out of 23, didn't use the pool).

Have you seen this site?

Although I think the hotel is in a scheduled area, there looks to be things that you can do around the hotel including golf

If you do go and like to venture further afield and if you have never been can I recommend a trip to Seville, its a beautiful place.

Happy Travels 🙂

This is my favourite coast in Spain. It has few of the high rise blocks of the other costas and it the coast of choice for the Spanish. It is rich in history and striking distance to Seville, Cadiz and Medina Sidonia - all stunning places to visit.
Depending on the time of year it can be windy and is a surf paradise. the beaches are long stretches of golden sand which are, for the most part, unspoilt and clean with beachside bars and cafes serving fantastic fish.
We have had a house in Ronda for some years where I see patients with kinesiology, counselling and several other therapies. Like all holidays, it depends on what type of holiday you enjoy but I have always loved this coast and have no hesitation in recommending it.
Have fun and enjoy your holiday.
best wishes
Lynda Pudney 🙂

Ah thanks Atlanticpearl for all that info. We have been to Seville, as you say, it is a lovely interesting place, did you go into the beautiful REal Alcazer? my husband and I have agreed to meet each other in the gardens there in 2070 (as ghostly figures,) :1kis: Romantic eh!

We actually have two holidays fixed up, one to an apartment in Benalmadena on 23rd Feb (sick of hotel rooms) and another gorgeous apartment in Malta in June. Might leave the Costa de la luz. Wish I was healthier and fitter to venture further and have more adventurous holidays though, something like what Sunanda is doing sounds just my cuppa tea. One thing for sure I hope I can get a nice big win on the lotto or bonds soon because this is the first year of retirement and the way I want to be away all the time our little savings will be all gone in the first year 😮

Hi Jeannie

You've said this a couple of times now Jeannie and it popped into my head again this morning as I was cleaning the bathroom. (You see what adventures I have!!!) You know, I really don't think there's any reason why you shouldn't have a once in a lifetime holiday to India: where I'm staying (Kovalam beach) is a comfortable tourist place with a nice beach and friendly people from which you could venture out on day trips. If you were to book a fortnight or three weeks next January or February, just think of all the fun you could have researching stuff in the months ahead. Something to look forward to and to send your boredom packing. Also time to build up your positive thinking about your health. I imagine you're going to say that you can't fly so far but with Emirates you could fly in one hop to Dubai, which is where the fun begins as the duty free area is miles long! (You can also avail yourself of the Emirates lounge for the grand cost of about £26 where you get a free buffet and who knows what other goodies, along with a buggy ride to your departure gate.) Then it's another four hours to Trivandrum and just 20 minutes in a taxi to Kovalam.
You could stay at my old friends' smallish family hotel with a crystal clear swimming pool (where I have been all morning, in fact I was the only person there for a while) . This is just a five minute walk from the beach where there are sunbeds and cafes and restaurants.
Of course, although India is now very westernised - and in Kovalam they don't turn a hair at female flesh any more! - India is still an alien culture and you have to be open to the possibility of things not being the way you want them to be. It can be noisy - but at 5am in the morning when the temples and mosques start to broadcast their music, it can be smelly, it can try your patience, you may have to put up in some places with squat toilets and no toilet paper (and if you carry your own, remember that the plumbing can't deal with paper!) but if you come with an open mind and an open heart, then you will have adventures. I see British people here all the time who come back year after year, and some of them don't look very fit at all.
You seem to be yearning for something other than a package hotel in Spain so why not take the plunge and go for it? Just do it!

OH Sunanda, I was sold, I could be sold on everything you say and I would do it I seriously would do it, I wish I could do it but for your extract above :dft001: I have a bowel disease which (look away anyone squeamish) that often does not give me enough warning to even get to a 'normal' toilet in time. I won't go in to more detail on this but it has spoiled many an outing to say the least 😮 I will just have to be content with reading your blog :dft003:

Lynda Pudney, thanks for your info x
