I am interested in training in Massage, Reflexology and Aromatherapy. I am looking in to doing a short/intense course then completing SVQ's at home. Did anyone else train like this?
I've been training with local colleges of FE, Chesham and Luton. The courses were very hands on and required lots of case studies.
I'm not sure how something like massage can be taught by distant learning because it not only needs the guidence of the tutor, but also the interaction with other students to refine the skills.
Whenever these discussions come up about training, I think we all need to look at competence and consequence. In other words does the training enable the student gain the competence to give massage safely and effectively? Do the students understand the consquence when massage goes wrong or if they miss a contraindication?
Of course there are different levels and types of massage, but sometimes I think that some massage therapists take on conditions that the are neither trained for or have the competence to carry out.
Find the best training you can because you can neve have too much practice or practical tuition. The greater your skills, the more your clients will appreciate it can come back for more. There are too many people out there that have been put off massage because of bad experiences.
HTH,
Myarka
where how did you train.
Hi, thing with learning to Massage it can only be hands on. Like Driving a Car, practise, practise, and practise. Once passed your Exam/Test, you only know the basics. I learnt Massage 25 Years ago, still Practise, but only after say a couple of Years was I truly confident.
John.
A couple of years, blimey. I felt confident within my class lol but everyone is different. I answered this on another of your posts mrsjkn, and studied at a local college and other locations for one day workshops 🙂
I agree with myarka and john01. You really need hands on experience, as you have to get shown how to stand, have the correct posture and how to know if you have the bed at the correct height so you don't develop back problems etc.
Good luck for the future 😉
