Hello,

I'm looking to train with a private tutor rather than a specified centre/official course in order to become ITEC Holistic Massage qualified.

Do you know whether and how this is possible?

Thank you! Anna

Hi, Im not sure whether this is possible, but I would imagine it would be hard to find a private tutor that is able to spare you the hours that the ITEC Holistic massage course requires you to do.

Dont mean to be rude, but can I ask why you won't do it at a college etc? You can meet some fantastic people on courses such as massage.

My understanding is that you have to train at an ITEC approved centre.

This is very true and I never thought of that. ITEC are very strict.

Yes you do have to train at an ITEC registered centre. There is no minimal intake requirements, but there is a minimum numbers requirement for the examiner to come up. I think this is to do with money that the centre has to payout for the examination. It is possible to be examined at another registered centre, but the examiner has to see the student's case studies and other stuff from the tutor. All to complicated just for one person. Also it costs 100's of £ for a therapy school to register with ITEC. It wouldn't be cost effective for a tutor to do this just for a one off student.

Lunanishi, if you wish to gain an ITEC qualification it would be better to go to a private school which takes on small numbers. Part of the learning process is learning from each other.

I know of a fantastic course, over a four x four day period, one that I attended. Let me know if you wish to know more. You could do the A & P seperately if you wish and I may be able to arrange for private tuition and examination for this depending on where you are located.

Thank you so much for your advice and help. Before posing my question on this forum I hadn't yet found a course which started before Autumn this year and I'm itching to start!
I agree that doing it at a centre would be better from the point of view of meeting many people and the learning process would be better too.
I called ITEC and it is true that it has to be through an ITEC approved centre.

Yes I would love to know more about the course you recommend! I am located in London and am often in the Brighton area too, and considering relocating there. But this qualification is my priority, so if London suits you better then I'd stay here for the meantime.

Many many thanks!
