Dear fellow forum members,

I am currently in the midst of finishing my degree in acupuncture. I would like to become a self-employed acupuncturist. However, I would like to now top up my studies with either herbalism or nutrition in (both) which I have an interest.

Please can someone tell me:

- Is the College of Naturopathic Medicine any good for either course?

- Is nutritional therapy more popular with patients or herbalism (obviously combined with acupuncture).

- Should herbalism/nutrition be studied as a degree or would it be okay to study with CNM?

- Is it difficult to find patients for nutritional therapy?

- Which is popular? Herbalism or Nutritional Therapy?

Please can someone answer these questions. I will be very grateful 🙂

Hello around the world,
Welcome to Healthy Pages!
Well done for nearly finishing your course. I guess you would say youve got the learning bug.....sounds abit like me four years ago...always planning my next course before the first one had finished. I would try and think about what you want to do and will enjoy learning. All extra learning is great..it just adds more to your tools box. why dont you start doing your acupuncture and see what pops up....?
They sound both good to me!
Good luck

Hi around the world

That's a difficult question. What works with one therapist doesn't necessarily work for another.

Having some understanding of TCM (ie Tuina, Qigong, Taiji) wouldn't you be better off following this paradigm and combine acupuncture with Chinese herbs, which is traditionally includes food energetics, ie rice to nourish the Spleen or dates to tonify the Qi & Blood. Also herbs are more prescriptive, but nutrition is more about encouragement. Do you wish to educate others in self-healing or provide an alternative medical service?

Best Wishes

RP
