Itec & Cibtec Exams!!
Hi everybody,
Am facing Itec theory on monday 5th June (Bank Holiday!! -Ireland) and Cibtec on Mon 12th June together with practical same day!.
Was just wondering if anybody has sat the exams recently and if they had any sample questions, or what the general favourites were.
I am starting to panic as there is so much to take in. Studying part time 2 evenings per week, with two small kids, so it has been difficult. Anyway, I am sure there are plenty of you in the same situation so I should'nt be complaining...can't help it ..my husband says it's a woman's perogative to moan!..
Anyway, would be great if anybody had any vital info to share.
Best of luck to you all in the meantime. As a thank you to everybody for their help with questions/answers over the last few months since I joined I will be logging in after the exams to post those that I can remember.
The questions posted have been a great help during the course for in house tests. Let's hope this proves fruitful for the real thing.

RE: Itec & Cibtec Exams!!
Hey There All,
Right lets start with CIBTAC sports massage !
Minimum training - 100 hours , 80 hours contact, 50% of which must be spent working in a commercial salon enviroment, 20 hours additional study. ( this means that you have to 100 hours of class time, 80 hours contact with tutor - practical and theory, 40 hours of those should be spent with clients coming in for treatments - some colleges work way around this, and your case studies therefore should take 20hours additional study.
The course is broken down into different areas:
G1 - generic area 1 health and hygiene
G2- Skin structure and function
G3- Skin diseases
G4- Business studies
G5- Salon Procedures
G6- Nutrition
Body massage revision
A + P
Theory of sports injuries
Theory of sports massage
ICER
Heat
Exercise for sports massage
nutrition for sportts
Client care and Consultation
Sports massage practical work
After care and Homecare
Theory paper is multiple choice -25 questions 30 minutes ( changing exam to an hour )
Practical is 45 minutes
Theory paper breakdown:
Number of marks 38
Generic areas of studyquestions18%
Treatment questions 82%
Practical exam you will be marked as follows:
Consultation 14 marks ( 8 to pass)
Prep of client 3 marks
Prep of working area 3 marks
Sports massage questions and heat treatment 40 marks ( 24 to pass)
Hygiene procedures 3 marks
Personal appearance, deportment and attitude 3 marks
Oral questions 14 marks
total 100.
pass 60 - 74%
credit 75- 84%
Honour 85-100%
Unsure of the amount of case studies that must be provided ( think it is 10??? - maybe some one could let me know)
However this would be in contents I would expect from a student:
-Pick injuries of a students choice to include a variet of areas, acute / chronic/ muscle ligaments ect
- detailed anatomy of the injuried area
- detail on injury
-possible causes of injury
- grades of injury
Assement of injury- tests preformed, palpation, AROM,PROM,RROM
-treatment of the injury- what you could do
( Sports therapy - machines you would use and why)
Home care advice
-detailed exercise prescription
-fluids, water coffee,tea
- heat/ ice and how you would do it.
* Diagrams should be included of - anatomy of area, stretches and strenghtening exercises.
On the day of the exam :
You should have your class work folder ready for the examiner to inspect
Log books up to date
Consultation forms
Clients with no back ground in your area - not students
Hope thats of some use ?

There was a match the boxesabout Medulla, Cortex and Cuticle
The practical side was very hard, don't know if we are allowed to mention any names here so I won't but she was asking us questions about things we hadn't studyed and mucked up all the times so we were running behind and miss out on doing some of our treatments. I was in tears during the exam and 3 more broke down at the end!
Not fair that the 2nd group that went through she was totally different with so at least we have a reason if we are going to complain or appeal on the results, not to sure what we are going to do yet
Hopes this helps some people, next year I'm doing electrolysis so will be back here looking for help.
Thanks Adele

RE: cibtac exam paper 16 april 2007
Hi leiarose,
Thanks for the question thats u post, its really can help me a lots.
Currently I just taking CIBTACAesthetic Treament Course, so got a lot question for the examination.
How many question will be in the exam ? And how was the practical exam? Is it difficult ??
Hope can get ur reply soon.
Thanks...
RE: cibtac exam paper 16 april 2007
80 questions in all but some had five parts to them so i think it will be marked out of 120
the practical was grand just a bit nerve racking though our examiner was big in to ingredients in products and the effects and benefits of them and after care advice for clients
if you talk to your client throughout the oractical telling her what you are doing and why the examiner wont ask you too many questions thats what i did and it worked she just asked me two questions about the ingredients in the mask and aftercare advice
for waxing she wanted us to wax fron and back of both legs and either under arm or bikini
i got a bikini and i think i was the only one that did
we had 20 mins for a day make up and 20 mins for manicure i got a pedicure
she gave half the room manicure and the other pedicure
hope this helps

RE: cibtac exam paper 16 april 2007
Hi leiarose, Thanks a lot..
CIBTAC exam paper 07
We were given this paper to complete, and I hope it may be useful to someone.
Functions of the epidermis
The epidermis consists of several layers of cells. Its actual thickness varies according to its location on the body. It is thin on the eyelids and thick on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. The main functions of the epidermis is to protect, maintain temperature and be a waterproof barrier.
The two inner layers of the epidermis are composed of living cells. Sometimes these two layers together are called the malpighian layer.
The three outer layers of the epidermis are composed of dying or dead cells.
Stratum Basale (Stratum Germinativum)
This is the innermost layer of the epidermis. It is a single row of cells, which is continuous around the hair follicles, sebaceous and sweat glands. The cells are capable of dividing continously by a process called mitocis to produce new cells. This division is particularly fast when the surface is subjected to friction e.g. the feet. At intervals between these cells are star-shaped cells called melanocytes, which form the skin pigment melanin.
Stratum Spinosum (Prickle Cell Layer)
This layer consists of eight to ten rows of rounded cells fitting closely together, which have fine threads connecting to the cells around them (hence prickle cell). These threads play some part in the absorbing of melanin granules into the cells. These cells are able to divide by mitosis.
Stratum Granulosum (Granular Layer)
In this layer the cells begin to die and hence it is considered a transitional layer between the dead and living cells. This layer consists of two or three rows of flattened cells, which contain granules of keratohyaline.
Stratum Lucidum (Clear Layer)
This layer consists of three or four rows of flat or dead cells. The layer appears clear because melanin is absent (but not in black skin) and the cells contain eleidin - a further stage in keratinisation. This layer is particularly pronounced in thick, hairless cells e.g. palms and soles of the feet and is not present in hairy skin.
Stratum Corneum (Horny Layer)
This is the outermost layer of the epidermis and consists of twenty-five to thirty rows of dead and scaly cells, which contain the protein keratin. This layer prevents water loss and reflects some UVA from the skin. These cells are gradually shed by friction and only stay in this layer for 7-14 days. This process is called desquamation or sloughing. It takes about 28 days for a cell to pass from the basal layer to the horny layer. When might this be different? With skin conditions like excezema or psoriasis or illness.
Melanocytes produce two types of pigment - Eumelanin (black or brown) and phaomelanin (white, yellow, red). The amount and distribution are responsible for the skin's colour together with other factors, blood haemoglobin and amount of fat in the skin.
Caucasian skin contains eumelanin in basale, spinosum and granulosum strata. Black skin contains more eumelanin in all five layers.
