Consciousness is NOT a product of the brain?
That's the interesting thesis with facts to back it up in a very interesting article here:
That's the first part - just follow the links to further 'chapters'. In fact the whole site is worth a look IMHO.
The author tackles the concept that consciousness is just a product of the brain (which has little evidence), and questions how much consciousness per se has to do with the brain at all.

Thank you for sharing the link, Venetian. It does contain very interesting information.
I am currently in the middle of "The Quest for Consciousness" by Christof Koch. What this book is about:
"Drawing from the a wide range of anatomical, physiological, clinical, psychological and philosophical concepts and data, The Quest for Consciousness summarizes the scientific basis of consciousness, outlines the limits of our knowledge and describes the experiments that will need to be done to bring the quest to a successful end."
It will be interesting to compare notes when I get to the end of my book.

Sounds very interesting, Mirrie.
It looks like perhaps a whole new angle on investigating consciousness may be opening up, and one that the lecturers at uni who once taught me psych, with their detailed mapping of the brain, might have trouble handling. 😉
But then things move on. In the 50s and 60s the foremost psychologist was B.F. Skinner, and I saw him in TV interview insisting of himself, "I am not conscious. I am only a machine reacting to your stimuli." He's considered pretty old hat now in some ways, and things do move on.

Thanks to you both for the interesting topic. I have been following the science for a while now and I think whilst the concept is hard to envisage when it all boils down to the quantum level it hangs together well. Its the thin end of a whole new area of science. Very exciting .

Thanks to you too, and welcome to the forums here. 😉

I'm surprised "Interesting Ian" hasn't pounced on this , as it's one of his favourite theories.
RE: Conciousness is NOT a product of brain?
I am also suprised that the topic hasn't caused a bit more debate. Given a lot of the more metaphysical stuff people rabbit on about. The concept that science may actually be about more than chemistry and might offer some explanations for the potential for seperation of consciousness from the physical should at least get the attention of the astral proponents.
The articles that I have been reading offer some very plausible info on the potential for the brain to be more like a muscle than an engine, and the mind to be held elswhere , even perhaps elswhen.
