I'm sure you're not the only Welsh person here. The regional forums don't seem to get used as much as the other forums.

No doubt someone will come by here from your neck of the woods.

😉

Hi Lisa, it was for pleasure! We had a week in the west. I loved Swansea you have so many funky shops!

We'll have to try and get this section off the ground!

Hi everyone,
although I now live in Durham, I am WELSH through and through and try and get down to Welsh-wales to visit family 4 times a year.
I'm from Crickhowell, inbetween Abergavenny and Brecon.
My 2 sisters live in Killay near Swansea.
I lived in Cardiff for 2 years as a higher education student ( not uni) (Roath) and used to work in a The Borough on the main street in Cardiff (St Mary Street) and also in a nightclub called Coco Savannas opposite the theatre, when it first opened. We used to work a shift, finish at 2am and go to the Taurus steakhouse for a meal and walk home!!!!

The Taurus steakhouse - best beef strogonoff ever! Still haven't had one to match it.

On my last trip to Cardiff - for the rugby - I was most disappointed to find it's not there anymore.....but then so much of Cardiff has changed.

And there's still nowhere like Swansea market for your fresh veg.....and lava bread and cockles! With thick cut bacon and brown bread.....yum!

And since we're getting a bit active in the welshie forum, can anyone help with this?

Thanks!
With love,
Amber

hey Amber, best chicken n chips in the Taurus. It moved across the street and went a bit upmarket - took the sawdust off the floor and it was never the same.
I used to love working in the pub on international day, fantastic atmosphere.

I haven't been to Cardiff for ages, not since they poshed up Grangetown and called it a marina or summat.

I used to drive to visit my friend in grangetown and used to try and hold my breath when I went past the Brains brewery as it reeked.

sorry, not heard of the cake that you talk about, we used to live on welsh cakes and rock cakes, but not the one you mentioned. will ask though and see what I come up with for you.

Cymraes here, through and through!
I moved to Huddersfield to study, and Ash moved up too in 2006.
Still consider my (lifelong) home to be glorious rural West Wales - cefn gwlad amdani!

It's a shame no-one really has the balls to start a thread in Welsh...would we get kicked off for that? I agree it's rather exclusive...

Although I've been in Dorset for most of my life I was born and bred in Ogmore Valley near Bridgend and was there until the age of 8. I'm 41 now and people still detect my accent (especially when I've had a few too many!) I love my Welsh roots and very proud of it I am too!

Of COURSE you wouldn't get kicked off, LOL 😀 ... but perhaps not a whole THREAD, since other members DO enjoy reading the regional forums, and we have to bear in mind that English is the main language of HP, read and understood all over the world, which Welsh may well not be.

Translations of short exchanges of Welsh here would be much appreciated, and if anyone wants to brush up their 'rusty' lingo, there's always the PM system 😉

Thanks, folks 🙂
