Hi and greetings from sunny Somerset! [sm=wave.gif]
What a splendid idea ... but did I imagine it, or was there a thread somewhere recently about regional meet-ups? This will probably cover both 🙂
I do know of quite a number of local events forthcoming throughout the summer -like camps and green events - alsoshops and healing centres that also run workshops, and so on, but before posting details and websiteswould appreciate some guidance as to what is, or is not, acceptable to post, viz a viz HP and the advertisers.
Perhaps such guidelines could be posted generally at the top of the sub-forum for all counties?
Thanks.
Holistic
EDIT: Just changed the subject line slightly, since I am v. close to the Somerset/Devon border.
RE: Somerset
Hi Laura[sm=wave.gif]
You're correct, these sub forums are designed to cover meet- ups and events. I'll see if I can arrange some guidelines to be posted:D
RE: Somerset
YIPPEE!!! Hi Laura - that would be wonderful, look forward to reading the info!

RE: Somerset
Hi folks! As I hope to be moving to Wellington in July/Aug time I thought I would come and say hi now! Somerset Angel and I have come up with an idea that might cover some of the things that members have asked for so if anyone lives in villages/towns around Axbridge/Cheddar Gorge area let us know. If enough interest by like-minded people will give more info later lol!

RE: Somerset
Sounds most intriguing, Reikiangel.:) I'm sure I'd be interested to hear more in due course.
In the meantime, as you may have read above, I have asked for some guidelines as to what we may or may not post here, and I'm sure they'llappear as soon as they're available.

RE: Somerset

I'll look forward to that 🙂 Drumming, like HP, can get addictive! Did you see the threadfrom awhile ago in the Music forum, about djembe drumming:

Guidelines - being discussed and I'll get back soonest 😉

RE: Somerset
hi, I would be interested in some Drumming workshop too!
anyone has something to say about Frome, as a place to live in?
RE: Somerset
Hi Fadette,
I have lived on and off in Frome for 2 years but am not a local. Maybe that gives me better insight.
I'm sure I've seen drumming workshops advertised right here. I actually don't know what to say about Frome. Personally I kind of like it as I'm used to big cities. I never lived in a town this small in the UK before. It's very friendly! There's oodles of things happening for a place so small, but then again, not much if you are used to big cities (one cinema, one screen, so take or leave what's on!).
Every place has its good and bad points. Central Frome is real nice with old buildings, about 500 years old, so 'quaint', and I stay there. But in the 60s on it was expanded with typical housing estates lacking any character. I wouldn't want to be there, no way.
Somerset itself is new to me, having usually been in London .... but think Somerset and you think 'coutryside'. In fact Frome iself has no real park, and for greenery you need your own big garden or to get out - real bizarre. Apparently there's a big drug problem here, but it doesn't impact ordinary people and crime is about zero. The local paper has headlines like "Lady in 70s dropped her purse" ... which you do chuckle atcoming from bigger places.
Does that help? There is a 'New Age' scene here but not to suit everyone. I'm just used to London where there's everything under the sun.

RE: Somerset
Hello all!!![sm=wave.gif]

RE: Somerset
Somerset Angel
Many thanks for the suggestion. I drum with a group in Weston-super-Mare, so it's probably the same one. If you have the details handy, PM them to me and I'll compare.
As several people in this thread have expressed an interest in drumming (hooray!), I've put a couple of links to websites in a new thread.
Guidelines as to what we may or may not post regarding eventshave been promised for after the Bank Holiday, so we'll all just have to hang in there for a wee while longer. But I haven't forgotten, and they ARE in hand 🙂

[sm=wave.gif] *waves back* I can see you if I lean out of the window 😀
Are you welcome? OF COURSE you're welcome, and I hope it's reciprocated because I'm about to pay you a visit in Devon - and my other near neighbours in Dorset - I live a few miles from Ilminster so am quiteclose to both.
Laura.
RE: Somerset
With all these HP drummers in the SW, it strikes me that if mods won't allow a subject on-forum, you can just DRUM the messages around! 😀
V
RE: Somerset
LOL, V, excellent idea ... if you stand at the top of the hill, you should be able to hear us and send back a message 😀
I went to Frome to look at a house before I moved here, and recall rather a steep hill. I wasn't ignoring your post earlier, BTW, sorry if it looked that way. Re your comment about the greenery ... I just drove into town to do a bit of shopping, and was struck anew by the sheer beauty of the countryside. It's all "greened up" just in the last couple of days, and is quite breath-taking. City life? No thanks, I can always visit.
I'll put up a couple of website links in a separate thread and amend my post above.
Laura.
RE: Somerset
Hi Holistic a colleauge at work goes to the drumming group I know Scott Jasper goes there every so often to run the group. I will ask when I see my work mate.
RE: Somerset
I'm sure we're all talking the same language here! 😀
See the Dragonflymoon link on the drumming thread - Scott Jasper does lead the group at Weston quite often.
RE: Somerset
Hi I would love to join you guys.
I am from Devon, but my Mum was born in Somerset,so I have a certain amount ofSomerst blood in me, will that be acceptable.
Hails xx
RE: Somerset
[sm=wave.gif]Hi Hails, it's lovely to see you here, and I think it's a good idea that people check out what the "neighbours" are up to 😉
Why not also pop a post into the Devon forum - and say hifrom there maybe? I started a hello thread yesterday and it would be great to have some others join in 🙂
RE: Somerset
Well, brace yourselves Somerset!! If everything goes according to plan my daughter and I will be in Wellington on the 11th August.
Don't say I didn't warn you lol!

P.S Anyone going to Bill Harrison's Healing Festival next week? If so let me know and Somerset Angel and I will make ourselves known (along with Magpie who now lives in Spain but coming over just to go!!).
RE: Somerset
Glad to hear things are going according to plan. You'll find the climate much less extreme down here (spoken as an ex-Essex girl, as you know ;)).
Here's a link:

I shall be attending the drumming workshop on the Monday, but unfortunately am otherwise committed over that weekend.

RE: Somerset
I've only been in Somerset a while, but thought I'd touch base to say I can't make those dates.
Actually there's a 9-day festival of music, art, food, etc., in Frome starting tomorrow. I only just remembered that I bought some tickets for some events ages ago! There's a great community atmosphere during this annual event, and the main streets are packed out with free music, etc.

which, funnily enough, I posted in the Reflexology forum yesterday for a new HP member who is also new to the area:

RE: Somerset
Hi holistic and everyone.
I just scanned through the thread and saw a member question frome.
My partner and myself have been here now for a year and a half.
We both were working/studying in Bath so had the best of both worlds in relation to city/town life.
I must say that I adore Frome. It took a while for me to get used to the size in relation to Swindon (where I originated) but the creativity and artistic under current here is quite impressive.
Also how everyone pitches in to adhere to a vision whether it be for charity, drama, flim etc.
As pre mentioned, the architecture is fabulous and I beleive there are approx 345 grade listed buildings. Cheap street is very quaint as is Catherine hill. Cheap street in particular is veyr hesitant to chain stores and I heard at some point that he proprietors have say on new business in the area. Check out Judes coffee shop Le Strada, I have met so many friendly people here and the place reflects Judes community spirit.

That is so true! I've never encountered anything like it living in big cities, or in the middle of nowhere either. If you like, PM me and we might have a coffee sometime. I should say again that I haven't been here too long and it isn't a permanent place for me. But for now ... 😉
RE: Somerset
THE EAGLE HAS LANDED!!!!
At last I'm here in sunny Wellington which has turned out to be a wonderful friendly place. Everyone we have come into contact with have been really welcoming, even the local paper decided to do a feature article on me as I come from Essex and sounded "interesting" lol.
Looking foward to possibly meeting up with fellow South Westerner's at some point,

Somerset buddies 🙂
Hi all, I've not visited Healthypages in a long time, but I'm back and looking forward to the healthy discussions etc on the site. I noticed this thread and that it hadn't had much 'action' for a while, so I thought I'd just drop by. I'd be interested in joining up with like minded people in the Somerset area, I live near to Bridgwater or 'Bridgey' as the locals call it! I hail from London but have lived in the Somerset area for around 18 years. I'm a medium with interests in all things spiritual/psychic/paranormal. I teach angel/mediumship workshops amongst other things and it would be great if we could kick off the new year with getting this Somerset group re-activated and maybe a meet of two could be in the offing! 🙂 Looking forward to chatting to you all.... Angelwispa xx
Hi Angelwispa, welcome to the forum :). Things do seem to have gone quiet on here re Somerset. I can't believe I have now been here four and a half years and it has gone so quickly! Do you get to Taunton at all? If you do it might be good to meet up for a coffee? If anyone else from HP is around you are welcome to come too :D.
