Ban Gael,
Think I replied a long while ago but there must be some Irish roots there, are there??
Love & blessings,
Rachel.
P.S. have you been to Grantley Adams Airport, there is an Irish link there.....
Ban-Gael and crystaltherapy,
There is no suggestion here that Scotland is a county. If you look at the title of this section of HP, you will see that it is UK Regional/County forums.
When these UK Regional/County sub-forums were first created a couple of years ago, they will have been allocated on the basis of the number of members in each area, and quite clearly, some will have a greater membership than others.
I trust that this answers your query. 🙂

That is totally understandable, and understandable to have to break down the UK for sensible reasons

.....but to "boldly" pronounce Scotland a "region"......
There used to be nine regions in Scotland, plus three island council areas. There were no "countys" either.
Since 1996 Scotland was divided into 32 unitary council areas.
So Scotland does not really belong in here at all!
Apologies for being picky, but I don't think you can answer peoples queries by saying there was never a suggestion of a county but implying region is okay.
I am imagining the same would go for Ireland and Wales.

Hello starrie and welcome back to HP 🙂
Various dictionaries suggest that the words 'region' and 'country' may sometimes be used interchangeably. However, if you have suggestions to make, do please feel free to PM me.
You will doubtless have noticed the changeover to our 'new look' forums which occurred in the meantime, and unfortunately you'll now have to re-set your notifications for PMs. You'll find further info and guidelines here:

Hi all!:)
I was just sort of pointing out that Scotland is a COUNTRY in its own right is all.
Hello enchantedhands, I have been to GIA ( Grantly Adams airport) several times, in fact I remember it when it used to be called Sewell Airport back in the day!
Actually no, I have no Irish roots that I am aware of but Scots,Manx and Irish gaelic are very similar because they all descended from a common Ancestor spoken in Ireland.
On this web site you will have to fiddle around and look for the Gaelic history section to get a fairly good idea of what its about.
