Hello, my name is Jeannie, new member and I live in Durham. I am a Reflexologist and currently doing my Reiki 2 Practioner training. I am about to set up from home and would be interested in chatting to others who have done this. I am also interested in joining/starting a local friendship group for others interested in holistic therapies. Anyone interested?

Nice to hear from you Kate, interesting web site, found by accident. Did it take you long to get clients? I have a number of strategies in mind i.e. designed my own leaflets, as well as distributing them around neighbourhood, the local chiropodist and doctor surgery have said they will let me leave them there. It would beinteresting though to hear how others have developed their business. My son has just started on an holistic therapy course in South Shields!. By the way what is a 'super member'.

Wow, what a small world! I bet he is in my class. There are two men in the class at the moment, so he is probably one of them!

I started my business back in March. I distributed business cards and AOR leaflets to my friends and family and asked them to spread the word. I got my first client (a friend of a friend) a few weeks after that, and since then it has just snowballed. I don't advertise as such, but i have my name in the AOR, and [link= http://www.findareflexologist.co.uk ]www.findareflexologist.co.uk[/link], which ihave had 2 clients from so far (so the fee has paid for itself!)

My website was really easy to set up. I just contacted a web design company and they sorted everything for me. Its been up and running now for about 4-5 weeks and i have had 2 clients from it so far (which i think is quite good!!)

Mainly though, most of my client base is from word of mouth (a really powerful tool).:D

(a super member just means that i have posted loads of times! I just love this site!)

Hi Jeannie,

Welcome to HP !! There are couple of us on here from Durham and a few from slightly further afield. We had a mini North East meet up last Sunday and hope to have another nearer to Xmas.

I hold a monthly Reiki share in Durham the first Tuesday of each month and you'd be most welcome to come along !!!! 🙂

Working from home works well for me (i practice Reflexology, Auricular Acupuncture and Reiki) I can fit work around my young son. Ask away and I'll be glad to help in any way I can.....

Hi Jeannie and welcome.

I live near Durham too. I am a complementary therapist working around the North East.

I also co-ordinate courses if you are interested in expanding on your education.

Hi. I'm Karren. Moved to Co Durham from Cumbria over 5 years ago to be with the light of my life ( we are getting married in May). I have a Diploma in Indian Head Massage and have recently completed Level 1 Reiki.Just discovered this local bit and wonder why it is not used more. I am a volunteer therapist for people who are mentally distressed and a women's refuge.I have also just gained a volunteer walk leaders certificate and will be leading walks in Bishop Auckland for people who want to improve their health or lessen the risk of heart related disease. Love to hear from others or meet somewhere for a coffee. How about the garden centre cafe at Shincliffe?

Hi Karren,
yes, would love to meet up for coffee once school hols are over and may well see you at that meditation session.
Apparently they do meditation in the gala library also.

I also attend Susan Smalley's meditation group which meets once a month on a Tuesday evening.

I was thinking of arranging a one off meeting for therapists to discuss and share therapies, maybe with a theme.

Having seen your post in here Karren, have followed you in 😀

I'm Jenny and have a home based practice. I've been working with Reiki since 1998 but since then have gained qualifications in a number of holistic therapies but my main focus is on energy healing therapies such as reiki, theta healing, eft, reflexology etc. My husband and I also teach Reiki.

Ooooh I was a walk leader until July 2009 when I retired from NHS. (I worked in cardiac rehab as physical activity coordinator)

Would be great to meet up for coffee.
Maychang- I'd be keen to participate in your idea for a therapists meeting too.

That would be great Jenny.

Perhaps we can arrange a date with Karren next week. We can then discuss the therapist meet up.

I'll check with yvonne on here too.
