Hey Wendy - I've only just found this section of the boards!

I've just moved to Cornwall - near Hayle. I love it here so much - it's such a gentle calm and spiritual place.

RE: hi

My dad's family are from Hayle. They go way back. His grandmother was the village mid-wife there long ago. His mother, of the Hosking clan, was related to Richard Trevithick who married Jane Harvey. One of their offspring married into the Hosking line.
Gran used to live in Mill Pond Avenue.

Enjoy it. I know you would have loved it even more as it used to be - tourism has its ups and downs!!

hello Wendy, I used to live in Kent but recenlty moved to Cornwall. I live in Redruth, been here 3 months and am just getting used to the area. There is a great natural energy down this part of the world. I have just spent 12 years in Bournemouth and have to say i much prefer the pace of life here in Cornish land. Best wishes Jay

RE: hi

Pixybell! Oh my gosh! I know our immediate links to the name died out - probably due to the proliferation of females! But the Hosking clan was huge overall.

My auntie did extensive research -hence how we know the link to Trevithick - and my sister has done a lot of research into the Cornish blood. Our great-uncle Peter - Gran's brother - only passed away in the 70's.
I can find out more info if you would like?
I know that one of my great aunts married a Frank Schiller - a german sailor...

!! xx

Garthur it's a small world isn't it lol....my hubby is related to most of Hayle, if you're a Hosking, Mitchel, Smitherum then you're probably in the line somewhere lol, there are more but can't remember so I'll ask him when he gets in 😉

We lived in Redruth in the 60's for little while, in a carvan behind the once well know Flamingo Hall, sneek a look at Tom Jones singing Pussy Cat while rehursing:Dgot chased out.
Also a large carvan site for a little while.
Helson Parish was mainly were we lived at times, well around the area really:D.
So right the energy is wonderful, and I do miss the GoonhillyDowns very much as we use to play there when kids, too many dishes now (BT):(;)

Hi all!

I'm a Pensans lad, born in Redruth.

If I could bring this to your attention - sorry to get political - but I will assume that you are aware that the Office of National Statistics have said they won't include a 'Cornish ethnicty' check-box on the 2011 census.

Here is a pledge form where you can voice your opinion!;)

[link= http://www.pledgebank.com/Cornish-Tick-Box ]http://www.pledgebank.com/Cornish-Tick-Box[/link]

With 50 signatories in just two weeks and we keep the momentum going, then the aim of 1000 names shouldn't be a problem. Not for the Cornish anyway! The ONS would have to think again.

Hello. It's great to see so many Cornish people here. I live in Torpoint, just over the Tamar. Great place...not just a place with a carferry, there is more!!!!!though I grew up in St. Ives and my husband spent some years in Madron. We go to Carbis Bay very regularly and St.Ives.

Hello,
I am in Cornwall and live just outside of Redruth. I have been back down here nearly 4 years now. When I was younger I lived in Scorrier, Porthtowan and St. Agnes. I went to TOLGUS (now Redruth School) and then Penweathers (now Sir Richard Lander)
I am so happy to be back. xxx

Hello Reiki2u, Dianne, smilla, garthur, lovely to see you all,
I going down middle Steptember, staying in Dawlish, but having a couple of days visit to cornwall, going home to take lots of picture from where I once lived, it's near a place called Cury ( also not far from Helston).

love the area in general but love it best out of season - tied to hertfordshire due to hubbys job but mum would move back there like a shot if we could go

I knew part of my family came from Cornwall (maternal link) and I have been doing some geneology and have gone back to the early 1800's - to St Stephens in Brannen and Roche. Need to look back into church records to get the female names of family.

That part of my family were very psychic. All the Celtic links no doubt.

How far is the local church yards from you lol

I just wanted to know if you could find any one by the family name "Meagor" in or around Redruth.

I lived in Redruth when young for a while, we live behind a big dance hall, called the FLAMINGO HALL, guess it proberly pulled down now, I remember sneaking at the door and to my surprise Tom Jones was practising Pussy Cat Pussy Cat, old man came out and told me to go away he he.
We lived in a Caravan then.

talk soon

I remember the FLAMINGO...saw Gary Glitter there when I was young 🙂

I am close to a couple of graveyards, I have never been in them. So, let me know any other info you have and I will go for a wander around with my camera 🙂 xxx

Hi. I've realised reading this thread what my previous user name used to be!! I was Chrishta. Ah well. Bit late now.

I've just sold my house in St Ives - waiting for the paperwork to go through at the moment - then hoping to move to Trewennack in (fingers crossed!) mid-september. I can't wait. 😀
