This is something that has always interested me.
I'm a big enthusiast of music. I love how listening to it can lift your spirit to much higher realms. It's one of the best things we have down here apart from love I guess.
I listen to many genres of music from classical to heavy metal and I've heard that when musicians compose they are often channeling their ideas.
I'm guessing all music has an energy vibration attached to it.
What makes you resonate with some bands and not others ? In each genre I like there are bands I totally resonate with, get fully immersed in, absorb and others that don't interest me at all.
I guess all artists have their own energies that they are projecting outwards and I must resonate with that and the art that flows through them.
A lot of the music I like others don't like and vice versa so I'm guessing it's all down to energy vibrations and what a person resonates with.
I like to think I have a good ear for picking up quality music.

A pleasant and nice topic!
Right upto my very early twenties, I had a constant churning inside that was induced by my love and awe of Indian classical music.
It was the union with SUR, that brought relief and quenching from this musical melancholy. I started to sing classical and it brought respite. Away from SUR, pining and yearning even suffering.
It was a yearning of something, that I could feel but not articulate. Music came closest to that seeking. Whether I was sleeping or studying, music had to be on.
Indian classical paves the way to pick extremely subtle nuances of sound. I used to marvel at how my ear can pick up those delicious, ecstatic and profoundly sublime sounds and stirs in my soul something that cannot be described...how high the caliber of the musician must be, who could induce such profound feeling in me, one who is merely listening and melting into this experience Wow! That can only be humbling. The Indian classical music at its essence is about union with Consciousness. It strikes at the deepest core of being and ignites something in a way of yearning and pining.
I am no longer musically that intense. I seldom listen to music unless an urge now and again arises then I would listen to one piece over and over and over again, till a certain quenching takes place....and the a long gap of silence again.
A terrific range of music is pleasing to me. Now, I can get into any music if it is played around me for a certain length of time. Again the same subtle nuances present the, selves to me and my response is always of awe. My sons got into David Bowie, after his death...it took me no time to appreciate and get into the groove. Slowly opening to the subtle...as that happens Heart experiences joy.
That is universal magic of music. Not everyone is touched In the same exact way, but everyone is touched in their own way.
If the music is really touching me, it will invariable reduce me to tears.
It is not about clever music, if it touches you then it is music...it does not need musical notes, rhythm....it could be someone speaking, smiling, walking and music pours out of their being.
Some singing with powerful lungs, the sound can leave me feeling uninterested and a tad tired...it is not only sound of music, but the essence of the musician/ singer that affects the listener too.
Beautiful reply.
Sounds interesting your deep & soulful experience with music.
I'm the same in that if I have the urge I will listen to certain types and it does feel like quenching yourself.
I can have a song on repeat many times over and sometimes I just want to listen to music full-stop and be surrounded by it for ages as it totally lifts my soul.
I agree you resonate with the energies of the singer as well.
My ear just picks up certain bands / singers whereas others don't interest me. I think that's the part that fascinates me the most why certain musicians but not others.
I still think it's down to whatever they're channeling and the vibrations.
I used to be a singer/songwriter in my late teens and early 20s. I found creating music a wonderful expression
of emotions (cathartic) and was, of course, influenced by the music around me at the time. I suppose I might have come
under the bracket of soft rock/contemporary folk. I enjoyed performing the songs in clubs.
When I worked in a record shop it opened me up to all kinds of music (that I otherwise might not have heard of) and I am very grateful for that. I do feel that playing an instrument brings another dimension to music appreciation, i.e. having the ability
to play it.
Fast forward some 4 decades and now I tend to like predominantly harmonic, soft/relaxing music which fits with
where I am spiritually e.g. bossa nova/latin jazz. Enya has been a firm favourite - she transports me - although she is now
past her peak. So it can be any forum of music as long as it has that soothing/tranquil vibe. So, predictably, there is more
music that I dislike! Predominantly I cannot stand rap music (far too aggressive in vibe), frantic jazz music
and anything shrieking/screechy!
Being a musician means I do have more specialised tastes in music....I can liken it to a chef who is a foodie.
