Have been lucky enough to see some amazing sights lately. A few weeks ago Windy and I were out on one of our favourite walks. Part of it is over a river. There was a ripple and we expected to see a fish jump but it was a grass snake swimming across the river! We watched it until it went into the reeds on the other side. It must have been at least 5'. The other name for this snake is the water snake. It is the first time either of us have seen a snake swim.

No he slithered when he slipped out!!!
I had one cross my path when I was walking through woods once. I almost missed seeing it as I was looking ahead and not down. Not sure how big this one was. It was racing away from me and if it wasn't for the yellow behind the head I wouldn't have known what it was. 🙂

When we were living in Florida, we saw too many swimming snakes! LOL ...and very large spiders.
We live out in the boonies and had a fox come through our property on the 4th of July...beautiful, healthy-looking red fox. This is the first one we've seen actually on our property in the 4 years we've been here. A few nights after that, we saw one of her pups poke out of the brush. A baby fox is one of the most adorable critters...magnificent ears on their tiny heads!
We have a resident pair of hawks (possibly cooper) and a barred owl. A lot of song birds at the backyard feeder regularly, too.
This morning, the wild turkeys came through. There were 5 or 6 adults and at least 15 - 20 babies. They are so fun to watch as they peck their way around the wild raspberry/blackberry bushes.
It's amazing what you see when you take the trouble to look isn't it?
Recently I went with a friend on a camping out night in the woods round one of our local reservoirs, organised by the Essex Wildlife Trust. It was amazing! You would not believe what goes on in the woods after dark.
We saw bats, voles and mice, leeches (we went night time pond dipping!) and alot of spiders. We also looked out over the lake at the birdlife with high intenity torches and I was really surprised to see so much going on. Birds obviously don't sleep as much as we do! In the morning when we were taking our tents and kit back to the centre, all kinds of animals were scampering along the path ahead of us - rabbits, squirrels and even deer. It was magical!
No snakes though.....
It was magical!
LOVE that!
