I have the same problem with my dogs. The stinkier the fox poo the more they love it!!! A good way of getting rid of the smell is to rub ketchup on them before you wash them. Sounds weird but it gets that awful stink out.

My old dog used to do the same. She would get it all around her neck and collar, just before I would have to go out.

I now have a 12 week old puppy, who just walked through a load this morning, then put her feet on me, lovely!!!

Thanks for the Ketchup trick, I will try that.

Peppermint 🙂

I used to live in the country and not only did my dog like abit of poo rolling from time to time but he also loved rolling in any dead creature he came across....very weird.

As far as I know they do it instinctivley from when they used to hunt prey. the smell in meant to mask there own. However I can't help but think this plan in a little flawed, if I were an animal out grazing I think the smell of a giant poo coming towards me would panick me a little more that a dog 🙂

And... does any one know why the ketchup works?
I haven't ever tried it, but I will next time....

When you've finished putting it (ketchup) on the dog, put some on any copper or brass ware that might need cleaning - leave for 60 seconds then rub off - if only it worked as quickly on the dog!!! (The copper will gleam!)
I throw a bucket of warm water over our dog when she has rolled in something unmentionable, then I attack her with a rubber glove and a good dose of fairy liquid and a squirt of pine flash! Rinse thoroughly then leave grumpy dog in the yard till not dripping!

the ketchup seemed to work ok today as did the latex gloves, bottle of dog conditioner & fine toothed comb! maybe a peg for my nose wouldve helped too, luckily he didnt get too much of a chance to rub it right in! lol as im sure this was his intention - he doesnt smell too bad now although he's still in the dog house with me! 🙂

Yes mine are very attracted to fox pooh, the youngest has had a shower this week after rolling in it. What seems revolting to us is delightful to them! I have heard ketchup is good too, although I'm a bit worried it would stain my mostly white dog pink?! I wouldn't fancy using a household cleaner on them though, I'll stick to dog shampoo 🙂

Now that is interesting, must remember that,Lucy just pongs in any case. She's never out of the bath!
The yorkie we had years ago used to love rolling in dead fish. We had a lake near us and the fishermen used to throw the dead fish on the bank. Very naughty.

Its cheered me up knowing that dogs of all kinds of breeds like to roll in fox poo. Somebody told me it was only Jack Russells or J.R. cross breeds.

my parents dogs dont often roll in anything to be honest, but 1 of them once rolled on a dead, manky, rotting fish!!!!
me and my dad walked the dogs, then we had to pick my mum and her friend up from work, drop off her friend - then go home. i was nearly sick!!! it was disgusting. it was cold out, but we had to open ALL the car windows as wide as they would go!!

there was no getting him away from the fish though! hes a big dog and can easily get away when he wants to, failing his strength, he can twist his head out of his collar which is what he did that time and just when we thought it was a safe distance away - he went running back and flopped straight back on it!!!! he even made sure he was rolling ON it and not next to it by getting up and sniffing it then chucking himself back down on it!

My dogs do it, they have doggie coats on in the winter which seems to stop them. One theory is that they roll in strong smells to disguise their scent, so with a coat on they may feel "disguised" enough.

Not an option in the summer though.

Aw this has made me laugh! Luckily I've not had the mispleasue of my dogs rolling in any thing foxy or dead, but 1 of my dogs when out walking will insist on finding any bogs near by and lying down in them to drink! Any puddles he liesdown in too!

db86, you're not one of my children are you? We used to have 2 Pyrenean mountain dogs and one of them rolled in a dead fish once. It didn't matter how many baths we gave her, the smell lasted for weeks. She also kept standing up, checking where it was then throwing herself back down on it.
