Warning!
I have just found out that lillies are toxic to cats. It seems that their pollen affects the cats immune system and it can cause death.
I shall be digging up my lily bulbs tomorrow morning.

Oh no! 😮

I love my lillies - but I love my cats more!

And just yesterday my friend's mum arrived here on holiday and brought me some bulbs - her lillies back home are amazing! I was so pleased to get them. Oops - what am I to do?

I've grown lillies and kept cats for more than 30 years, as did my mother before me. I will not dig up my lillies - the cats have never taken any interest in them. When I receive cut lillies for the house, I have never attempted to keep the cats out of the room where they are being displayed, and again, they have never suffered any effects, even if they have been sleeping on the chair feet away from the vase.

I probably overreacted on reading the article. I have kept cats for a number of years and to date none of them have eaten lilies, in the garden or in a vase. I was just shocked at reading it and thought it worth passing on. 🙂

There is an almost endless list of plants that are toxic to pets.

Cats generally stick to eating grass but will sometimes nibble on things they shouldn’t.
I wouldn’t worry too much.
