Hiya!
I wondered if anyone can shed some light on a problem?
One of my rabbits, Tulip, twitches her body. It is like...erm..really hard to explain..I keep wondering if she has fleas. Ive tried to look but her fur is so thick that I cant see her skin. She is mainly white so I would have thought that if she had got fleas I would have seen one on her fur.
She has always done (she is 8 months old) and I am wondering what it is. She seems very healthy and eats and drinks well.
Thanks
Tx

RE: Twitching rabbit
Hi Trinityx,
Has your rabbit stopped twitching yet? If it hasn't then there may be sevrel possibilities to consider and questions.
How long has she been twitching? I am not a vet but have done a small animals course which covered everything from rats to rabbits and beyound. It may be that she has got fleas but you are not sure because her fur is so thick. First step I would suggest, if you have not done it already, is to bath her with anti-flea shampoo. It this does not work then take her to the vets as it could be that she has some parasitic mite of which some do live under the skin, thus the rabbit is unable to get to the annoyounce. It could also be that she has a nervous disorder, especially if she is twiching all the time or violently. Other possiblilties to consider, whilst consulting your vet is have her checked out for epilepsy. I am not trying to alarm you but if the twiching is constant and on one side then that may be a possiblility, or it could just be that it is part of her natural behaviour.
May I ask does she twich when handled by other people than yourself in which case it would suggest that she is nervous and weary, thus her twiching is an automatic response, almost defensive response in an attempt to be put down on ground, to get away. If on the other hand she does this with everyone, including you then it is not a nervous disposition I would suggest. Please let me know the outcome and I hope that I have not alarmed you in any way.
RE: Twitching rabbit
hiya Spiriteagle.
Thanks for the response.
I'd given up hope of getting a reply!
Tulip still twitches but Ive noticed that it is mainly when she is eating something (mostly always!!)
I think it may be an excitement thing??
She loves her food and scoffs it like she's never been fed before! She doesnt twitch when being petted and my other rabbit (honeybunny) who lives with her doesnt do it so Im not sure if it is fleas?
Im taking them to be spayed as soon as Ive got the money so Im going to mention it to the vet.
Thanks again for the reply.

Hi Trinityx,
I dont know if you are still looking for information about the twiching, however, I thought Id reply just in case. I also have a 10-12month rabbit named Jack and I like to stay informed. Jack has also been doing the same thing so I did some research and found some infomative info on the site related to the link below. Its some kind of pet forum.

Jack twiches and jumps in the air. Not sure if you bunny is doing the same thing. Anyway, I hope the link helps and good luck with Tulip!
