Something keeps frightening my cat and I don't know how to make it stop. I have three cats, but it's only effecting the youngest. There's nothing wrong with him medically, and he hasn't been acting out of the ordinary, but every now and then he jumps up and backflipsas if something has bitten him, and runs out of the room. It normally takes me a few minutes to catch him and calm him down. Once I have, he refuses to go back in my room. There is something in there that scares him. Please help. He's normally very passive, even with his sibling, and this doesn't always happen when he's in my room (but that's where it usually occurs). Is there anything I can do to stop these "fits"? EDIT: Sorry, clicked the wrong post!

What flooring have you got down, it sounds awfully physical like a static from the carpet or something like that.

I have carpet, but wouldn't it be effecting the other cats as well? It only happens to the one.

Not always, as we all have different static electricity levels in us.
If he was frightened of the room, he wouldn't go in there voluntarily, but the backward flip as you descibe makes me think of a static build up. Or it could be a simple thing like a claw catching in the pile? Check his pads, and make sure no injuries.

Oh, believe me, I have. He's perfectly fine. I just think it's odd that it only happens to him. His brother chases ghost now and then (at least that's what we call it .) Our house is over 100 years old. Is it possible that it's the house and not the cat with the problem?
I don't know. Maybe I'm just trying to find a something that isn't there to explain this. It's only been happening the last couple of months. Naturally, I'm concerned for my pet.

RE: Scaredy Cat

Hello Schweetie,

Yes, it IS possible that it could be the house and not the cat. I have heard that cats are naturally attracted to sitting on negative energy lines in houses, whereas dogs will tend to avoid them.

I would also guess that, like us, cats vary in the degree to which they're sensitive to such things.

You could perhaps try doing a space clearing in the room where this occurs, or maybe even the whole house, and see if it makes a difference.

Here's a thread from the Wicca forum which may be helpful:

Yes I have also heard that dogs and cats can respond to negative engery. I have also heard that even with paranormal things, animals can see more then humans. It could be the house, or just something in the room. I have three cats and sometimes they can be strange to things as well.

RE: Scaredy Cat

Could you find something about the house's history.

My Harry (dog) went bonkers earlier, he waskilling sunbeams, they were viciously attacking his food bin

It could be something as simple as that?

But a room cleansing makes sense, as that would eliminate anything negative from the spirit world.

Of course you are worried about your pet[sm=grouphug.gif]

Schweetie, just a thought, have you tried holding him safely in your arms in that spot?

RE: Scaredy Cat

Yes. He's a very affectionate cat anddoesn't mindbeing held, but when he gets scared, he tries to get away. He doesn't want to go back to that spot. It'll take him about an hour before he forgets and ventures in again on his own, but he's always very cautious about it.

He had another "fit" last night. He was getting up to leave the room when he suddenly jumped, crashed into the dresser, then ran out of the room to hide. I didn't try to call him back this time, but his brotherwas in the room when it happened and ran after him a few seconds later as if to check on him.

It's just really strange! I would hate tothink my house is somehow scaring my cat.

Try the vet again. Is it only in that place, or are there similar occurances elsewhere

FAIRIES!
My aunt thought I was crazy, too. [&:]

Whenwe moved intoour house last year, the backyard was a complete jungle. I have really bad allergies, so the first thing my aunt did, was rip out most of the plants and now we just have a plain grassy yard, lined with a few plants and bushes all around. (It's westernPennsylvania, it's hard not to have plants.)My stepmum is a big believer in fairies. She thinks that since all the plants have been cleared away, it made the fairies mad, so they're taking out on my cat since he's the most sensitive, even out of the other cats. In a way, it explains his reactions. He always flinches and hunches up as if he were just poked, but he freaks out because he doesn't know what just poked him. I'm not much of a fairy person myself, but I would like to think that explains something.

Anyone know how to make fairies happy? [sm=animal-smiley-085.gif]

RE: Scaredy Cat

leave out a glass of milk, and a reallly gooey chocolatey thing, either in the garden or the house for the faeries. Bid them welcome too.

Actually I meant a Witches Protecting Circle, see in Wicca.
