Hello all I do hope someone can offer me some advice,
My 20-year-old cat has been suffering from nasal discharge for a couple of years now, we have seen the vet consistently over this time and we are all still stumped as to what is causing this problem. It is so bad now that the pillow and sheet that he sleeps on has to be changed daily due to it being totally covered in bright green mucus (sorry).
He has had a dental and an exploratory operation under anaesthetic which has found nothing, no polyps or tumours. He has also had 5 or 6 courses of antibiotics which now have no effect at all.
His symptoms are profuse cloudy mucous from his left nostril (which moved from the right nostril 3 months ago) and right eye, and occasional short nose bleeds from the right nostril. He has a bad, wierd, 'medicinal' smell from his nose and mouth and violent sneezing. He also has a slow-growing cyst-like lump above his left eye which probably has nothing to do with this problem.
He is eating and drinking ok and seems well and in good spirits as can be expected for a cat his age now he has learned to breathe through his mouth, but I am worried as this problem is getting worse by the day and no one can seem to offer any explanation, never mind help, and I can't imagine how much worse it could possibly get. His kidney and liver function tests all are fine.
If anyone can offer me any advice or point me in the direction of some it would be very much appreciated, by both of us!
Thanks for reading, Ayindra.
Hi Ayindra
It sounds like your cat may have chronic sinusitis or some kind of allergy. I have always found my animals respond very well to homeopathic remedies. You could try Pulsatilla or Kali Bich both of which are indicated by green discharges. You could also try a 10 day course of Echinacea. It may be worth seeking out a holistic vet in your area who may have seen and treated this type of condition before.
Good luck and let us know how he gets on,
Annax
Hi Annax, thank you for your reply,
Yes his symptoms do seem indicative of chronic sinusitis and thank you for your suggestion of approaching his problem with homeopathy... being a holistic therapist myself I have no idea why I didn't think of it sooner to be honest!
I have contacted the nearest holistic veterinarian (over 3 hours drive away! But of course will be worth it if she can help) and am awaiting her reply, I will keep his condition and any treatments posted.
Many thanks again, Ayindra
