hi every one,

this may turn into a rant so apologies in advance!
my mum has just called as herself and my sister have found 2 king charles and their litter of puppies abandoned outside a supermarket. she spoke to the manager who said the poor things have been there all day.
i cant believe people are still doing this in this day and age, especially with the artic weather we'r having!
every one in my house are dog lovers and she now has the dogs in the car, untill we sort out something for them. we'v already rescued 2 dogs over xmas that were strays. luckily we have an animal shelter nearby that takes in dogs and dont put them down.
i know every one on this are respectful to animals but i wish ppl who do this kind of thing would listen to all the advice out there about responsible pet ownership!
anyway in the meantime please send your positive thoughts for these poor creatures and all other animals who are abused, neglected, abandoned, in distress and pain xx thanks guys x

I am amazed that the manager of the supermarket just left them there all day . Could he have not made some calls or at least reported the incident... is this the way of the world, to just turn our heads and pretend it doesn't exist... I hope your mum finds good loving homes for them.

People who just abandon them like that are sick. How long do they think they will survive in this weather? I think some of these people assume that someone will find them and rehome them or take them to the rescue centre for them. Do they think the animal shelters will think badly of them and so dumping them anonymously makes them feel better? Unfortunately, I can't use the kind of language in the forums that I would like to use when discussing people like that.

There was an article in the Manchester Evening News yesterday saying that the number of abandonments is at pretty much an all time high. The rescue centres are overrun. The RSPCA reckon it's partly the number of idiots who have bought pets for Christmas (the usual to a degree) and then the novelty has worn off after a day or two and they've realised what it costs to keep a dog. Combined with the recession, as well as there being more abandonments, there are less donations to the animal charities so they're really struggling to cope this year.

One of our dogs passed away a few months ago and the other one about 18 months ago. I am really tempted to go to the rescue and get another dog (or two) but my wife has just started a new job and I'm ridiculously busy at the moment so it's not a good time to try to settle a new pet in. I think once things have settled down a bit, we might start fostering for one of the dog homes.

Actually, I think the supermarket should be named and shamed! I'd write to their head office explaining my disgust at the way the manager handled it (or more to the point didn't). It's not that difficult to pick up the telephone.

This makes me so angry! How can people be so cruel? I am an adament dog lover and this really makes me hate the human race sometimes (only the bad people ;)). We walked our 3 yesterday over the fields and through 10 inches of snow and when we come off the fields, we pass a pub. Bearing in mind that yesterday in our area, it was freezing, snowing and icy, as we passed the pub we saw that some cruel 'owner' had left their dog tied up to a bollard outside the pub. I don't know how long the poor thing had been there but it had no coat on and was crying his eyes out. I went over to comfort him and as I was contemplating going into the pub to find the owner, a man came out for a cigarette and said the dog was outside as he'd been crying in the pub! I can't believe it.
My friend and I also volunteer on a Monday to walk the rescue greyhounds for the Merseyside Retired Greyhound Trust, and as we were walking some of them, a lady stopped her car and told us that she'd just seen a man stop his car and just dump a greyhound and drive off! Who does these things? Unfortunately, even though a couple of the guys went up to try and find and rescue the dog, no one could find him, the poor thing. I get soooo angry! 😡

By the way, Bannick, if you're thinking of fostering, the RGT are always glad of any fosterers 😉

This uncaring attitude towards animals (and people too) really saddens me. We have strays come to the farm occasionally. As you say, it doesn't cost much for a phone call, and the way people dump animals is just dispicable - they just don't consider the misery dumping animal causes. Last autumn the local wood was found to be full of guinea pigs - which took some catching!

😮 😮 :eek:I'm sorry but these people should be shot! To dump poor innocent animals who quite frankly have more compassion than most humans do! Frankly i'd be more tempted to go back to the supermarket and tell them exactly what i thought, then suggest they make a generous donation of dog food! How shameful are some people. Thank the lord they were rescued! I'd have done exactly the same, bad enough when i see pets waiting for their owners outside supermarkets who have only gone shopping! I'm sure they're feeling better now their recieving some love and care, bet they're soooo cute too! sending my love and belly tickles to them. Keep us updated. x x x

This is why i wont breed my German Shephard, she is fantastic health, ancestory, hip score, knees etc however I cant even imagine the thought of someone not thinking it through and dumping a pup a few months down the line. You can tell the new owners to bring the dog back if they no longer want it but often they wont want to lose face. You can home check and get references etc but if they dont take to the dog they will get rid of it. Dumping animals is just gutless and i cant even think of a punishment harsh enough they deserve, just let me at em......... makes me so mad.

poor things. yes, how coward and disgusting their action is. Also the supermaket manager who just ignored it.

. So where are they now? in your mum's house or at the dog shelter? O I love King Charles, they re so beautiful...I too want to foster/adopt another dog and cat in need when I am really settled.

fadette-rite now they are here in our house, don't worry they have landed on their feet here! unfortunatly we cant keep them because we have 4 dogs already so we are trying to find out if their owner is looking for them and have contacted the dog warden etc. just in case they may have got out of somewhere. if not they will have to go to the dog shelter because we have one dog here that is really aggresive towards dogs he doesnt know so they have to be kept separated and it is so stressful for us and the dogs too.
i cant believe that story bout the guinea pigs thats shocking! we have 4 dogs and 3 of them are rehomed with us- 1 was abandoned on the road with his brothers and sisters and we got him when we brought a lovely alsation to the shelter that we had rescued and couldnt keep. the other one was being given away by its owner and the last one my sister found one morning tied to the lamp post outside our house. we're so soft, always rescuing stray dogs but hate to see them out on their own, it breaks my heart. sometimes i think the dogs come to us cos they somehow know we'l look after them! its great to see so many dog lovers and people who think this is disgusting but the fact is cruelty to animals is happening all the time and its always the same people who pick up the pieces.
