I think my local vet needs to work on subtler reactions a little more!!Found a round, hard lump the size of a malteser on my male cat a couple of nights ago so when the vet examined him yesterday...... "Ugh that isn't good" isn't something we wanted to hear!!
I stroke him all the time so can't believe I have missed this lump though it is in the skin behind his rear leg- not on the bone. Such a healthy looking cat and looks nowhere near his age apart from sprouting a grey beard :p. Still goes out fighting the younger cats bless him!! Such a loving and gentle cat though.
He is having a blood test because of his age to see whether surgery is an option on Monday. If it's a really high risk from the anaesthetic then he will not have the op. He also has to have at least one back tooth out from eating soft food.
Also because my 2 cats (brother and sister) are 12 1/2 years old - should they avoid all soft food like he recommended?
Hope he can have it removed and it turns out to be harmless
Hello Maeshadow, you know you are so right, I had to write a letter once to my vet about the same thing, at the end of the letter, I wrote "it saddens and disapoints me to have to point out that you make a living because people love their animals".
It's not like it's free either is it? The prices they charge and some have no bedside manner, I took my Clara Bow to be spade when she was 8 months I'd never left her side until that moment, as I was leaving I turned round and said to the two nurses on reception "you will look after her won't you"? To which they looked at each other then at me as though I had just propositioned them for sex and they didn't reply.
A month later my Sister's beloved Shih Tzu Alfie Pancake was rushed in at 8 months old he had escaped from the garden and got hit by a car, he died as they reached the vet, the next day they phoned my Sister who was inconsolable and said "hello did you bring a dead dog in yesterday"? Unbelievable!
I will include your kitty in my prayers, please keep us posted.
Love

I hear lots of stories like these about vets. I guess I've just always been lucky when it comes to vets. My current vet who I've been with for about twelve years now has always been compassionate but professional. That said, I also have a slightly thicker skin with these things as I want to be told in black and white what the problem is and the prognosis so that I know where I stand with regard to decisions to be made etc.

Wow that sucks!! I too am a total softie with my furry 'babies' and would be distraught hearing that.
I want to know exactly what is going on every step of the way but it still scares me that they are getting older and one day they will be no more.
Will certainly keep you posted.
Thank you x x
I know what you mean Maeshadow we do set ourselves up for a fall, I cannot imagine life without my giant slobba dobber but I know she won't be going anywhere, not really, I remember a few years ago when the family gathered in my Dad's back garden to bury my cat Tush, my Dad put the last spade of earth in and patted it down one last time, my Sister and I looked up and as we did we saw Tush jump down from the garden bench and run into the bushes, so sweet of him to show us he had not really gone anywhere.
And my Clara-Bow's teacher Gordon is another example he had a snow white German Shepherd who passed over donkey's years ago but every time I see him the dog is right by his side as clear as day.

You are blessed being able to see your beloved cat!!
I once heard our dog tiptapping down the drive - both myself and my Mum turned round to look. Was such a lovely feeling though we never saw him.
Our previous pets are buried at different houses though when my cats pass over I will cremate them so that I will always be near them wherever I go.
Dearest baby boy is in the house now with the cat flap firmly fastened (I hope). No food after 8pm and an early morning trip to the vets.
Fingers crossed he will be ok.
Lot of Reiki tomorrow night for him x x
Good Luck for tomorrow Maeshadow. Hope everything goes well. xx
So how did you get on at the vets love?
Rebecca xx
Surgery went well, they removed the tumour and it has been sent away for further tests. No teeth were removed as they seem fine so that's good news.
Fingers and paws crossed that the tumour ain't a bad un!!
Wasn't able to let you all know last night as had to watch him when I got home from work. Treated him to a little chicken for being a good brave little soldier.
He has to wear a big cone collar and not go outdoors for 2 weeks. Though it is a struggle keeping the collar on him!! Little Houdini in the making!!
He has managed to wriggle out of it 3x so far this evening though I suspect he was just after a good wash and scratch so I let him do his thing for 5mins and preen himself without getting too close to the stitches and then popped the collar back on.
Fingers crossed I get more sleep tonight as he had forgotten nightfall existed last night....... Matchsticks needed!!
Thanks everyone x x
Aww, I hope things come back ok from the vets. He seems sprightly enough, being a lovely escape artiste!!
Wishing him all the best for a quick recovery,
Sarah x
He certainly doesn't look his age though has started sprouting a grey beard. Still keeps the other cats on the street on their toes (pads)
Has settled down since he had a preen so hoping it is a quiet night for us all
