My lazy little cat, has recentl;y started weeing behind the tv as its clearly too cold to be going outside for that sort of thing!
I have cleaned ithe area several times but the smell just seems to be getting worse, he cant get to that bit now, and I am at a loss its driving me mad!!!!
Cam anyone suggest anything that might help thank you !!!
Have you tried a little biological washing powder in hot water or washing soap flakes may do it? Other detergents that contain bleach make the smell of cat pee worse and the cat will keep trying to return to pee in the same spot.
Cat pee is horrid so I feel for your predicament.
Good luck
No not tried that, thanks for for the tip, will let you know if it works:)
Oh dear! When my cat has had 'accidents' I sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over the area first. Leave it for about an hour and then either vacuum it up or use a stiff brush to sweep it up. It acts like a deodoriser and absorbs the pee:).

The best thing i have found that gets rid of the smell is Zoflora
I have used bleach and bleach based products and im sure it has made it worse, ithought as it was a wooden floor it would be easy to get rid of the smell, will try everything suggested thanks guys!
Try baking powder, sprinkled quite thickly over the area and left for a few hours before hoovering up. If you use Zoflora, dilute it other wise one nasty pong will replace the other!
Leave 2 or even 3 cat litter trays around the house - make sure they are cleaned out everyday - especially if you have more than one cat. If he has been used to peeing outside, then make sure that you put him out of the house immediately after eating - even if it's just for 10 minutes. It isn't that cold - he's just being lazy, as you rightly say!
Hi,
There is an assumption here that your cat is being lazy. That may well be the case, but, equally it might not. Have you had him checked out by a vet?? It may be a physical problem.
Also, cats will start to toilet in the house when they are trying to get a message across to their people, so it could also be emotional. Might there be a new cat in the area who is bullying your cat when he goes out?
Try not to jump to conclusions about an animal's behaviour. There could be many causes.

I think it's important to ascertain if it's wee or spray first.
If it's wee, then you need to have a look at how much the cat is drinking because that will be the biggest pointer of what might be happening.
If it's spray, then it's and environmental / emotional issue that needs to be investigated.

We had our poor dog put to sleep in september and he and the dog were the best of pals and I have noticed a change in his behavior since we lost the dog, he has been even more cuddly and affectionate than before.
I have notices some scratches on his shoulder last week so can only assume he has been in a scrap ( he is neutered too by the way).
How can you tell the difference between wee and spray? Its on the floor so I assume that would be wee. I have noticed too he is eating for England too always demanding food
We have had some success with Citronella to stop cats going back to the same place

Spray has a more pungent smell than wee, but the biggest give away is that wee would go directly on the floor, where spray would be seen to be running down the wall / furniture because the cat stands up with their tail in the air and it comes out horizontal.
Neutered toms generally only spray outside until they are upset and feel insecure, and then they will spray indoors, usually in the same place.
HTH,
Myarka.
We've had this problem too. If you pour soda water over the urine it will neutralise it then put some lemon down, citronella is similar so that is a really good choice, as cats do not like the smell of lemon - I used a bar of lemon soap and it did the job.
In the end the problem with our boy was the neighbourhood bully-cat but that is another story- we sold the house to dog owners and can only assume he got his come uppance!!
luv 'Bella 😉
It must be the cold weather lately.
One of my cats did this last night, I'v got real wood flooring, so it's absorbed into the wood. I'm not happy....
My cat had a fight with the neighbouring cat a few weeks a go, I'd only been gone an hour! and came home to drops of blood all over the house! he ended up in the vets 2 days later with an abcess, since then he's been going in the bath, pees at the far end and lets it run down the plug hole, clever cat eh! lol. Hard to say, but if there is no obvious reason like mine then get yours checked out, cats diets can be rather damaging to their little kidneys etc, dry food can be especially bad for a cat if it's not a good quality, just a thought, although they can be a tad lazy a times and we all know how they like their creature comforts when it's cold and once their scent is marked thats it! check with your vet if your worried. x
