I may have missed it, but am surprised that there has been no thread about Paul and his uncanny ability to predict the winners of the World Cup matches. I have been wondering whether it really all is pre-ordained, or whether having the result predicted like that and going into the atmosphere of the national thought, gives encouragement to the players and becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I have had so much evidence that what we believe in, we bring into our experience.

Anyway, whatever the explanation is, having been away from work for 2 weeks on holiday (The Christian Science Monitor is our home page) I was amused this morning when I came across these links - the first to photos of all Paul's accurate predictions and the second to news of how he has (temporarily) saved Spanish octopi from restaurant tables! I understand that Paul is actually an English octopus, having come from Weymouth. (I wonder if he was named by the Germans after the Beatle?)

Quite an enigma!

I wonder if they will bring him out for all future major championships ? Maybe other sports ? hehe. If he gets any more correct the bookmakers will be after him and he will find himself on the menu quicker than normal.

Haha! Maybe Paul should be asked to predict the stock markets... I'm surprised he hasn't been bought by Goldman Sachs yet 😀

Anyway, Paul was good entertainment; he did a great job, especially promoting his species 😉 Apparently squids are highly intelligent creatures. 🙂

What caught my interest is that he comes from Weymouth. Weymouth itself has a family-friendly but very boring sloping sandy beach. I'm wondering if he might be from more like nearby Portland Bill where it plunges staight down and is rocky. See, it's long been one of my favourite places to swim from (snorkelling): sometimes the sea life is great for our shores, but I never saw an octopus there. I'll look out next time.

A few years back I was staggered there to see, sun-bathing on huge seaweed leaves about six feet under, the biggest crabs I've ever seen here. No fisherman's tale: there were many of them, and up to a yard across. It must have been a highly seasonal thing, as I never saw such again.

So now - octopus too. 🙂

Hi everyone!

Yes someone pointed that out to me too Matty

Not only that - although I do not doubt animals' psychic abilities - there is a 50% chance of Paul the octopus getting it right! Ask him at the beginning who would win the World Cup and give him all the countries and if he got that right *that* would be impressive.

This whole "Paul the octopus" is just media hype and a way for people to get money. Look around the internet - you will find that it wasn't just Paul 'predicting' the results, there were others too (granted not getting them right all the time)

I really wish people would stop using animals for pointless entertainment and ways to get money like this.

Peace
Vicx

Yes this was fascinating. There was Paul the octopus in Germany and a crocodile in Australia which was very similar. There is a very interesting feature about it at BEST WEB PSYCHIC TOP CLAIRVOYANT READINGS ONLINE ACCURATE FORTUNE TELLER, LOVE SPELLS. on their news page.
