I have a problem with our new neighbour who lets their dog loose on a flat roof next to our flat. The dog is OK but it poos on the roof which we can see from our kitchen and bedroom. The neighbours leaves the poo to build up until there are several piles of it. Yuk. I've politely mentioned to the girl next door that it is visible from our kitchen and terrace. I'm on OK terms with herbut she just said that by the time she's cleaned the house she forgets to do the roof.

It's not piling up in a place where I might tred on it and we can't smell it whilst sitting on the terrace. Butthe sight of 10 piles of poo with assorted fliesis vile especially when you're trying to eat your breakfast.

Any ideas of how to deal, especially after I've been nice and it didn't make any difference. I feel like a doormat because I don't want to starta conflict with my neighbours but I'm putting up with poo central.

Am I overeacting?

RE: Neighbours dog poo

Hi Kitten Warrior,

Is the flat roof her private property? If it isn't then i would tip off the council's health and safety department (or whoever deals with dog fouling in public places), then its out of your hands and they can deal with it. Alternatively, you could always just fib to her and tell her that you have seen vermin such as rats hanging around and you think its because of the poo (don't know if this would actually happen???). This might give her the push she needs to clear it up. [:'(]

I know how you feel on this one. My mother in laws next door neighbour keeps two horrid dogs. They use the back yard as their toilet, and she never cleans up after them........the poo always ends up going mouldy and there are always flies around......it also stinks!!!. The thing is, i have seen her sometimes walk barefoot in the yard (hanging out washing etc) and she end up standing in poo all the time.........its really yukky!!![:'(]

Let me know how you get on.

Maybe both owners could be pursuaded to take their poor dogs out for walks....poo bags in hand 😉

I would seek advice from enviromental health, even if it is their own property action can still be taken against them if E.H think it is detremental to public health; or if they are renting the property speak to the landlord or the housing officer from the council.

Definitely a health risk. Flies check out poo then sit on your decking/table/bowl of cereal etc.

Euurrgh that is deeescusting! I would definately inform the landlord about it. I think the dog would also benefit from a nice walk-about, so you'll be doing him a favour.

RE: Neighbours dog poo

My dog poo problems are over! The neighbour is moving and taking their dog and it's associated poo with them. Sorry to their next neighbours but I couldn't be more pleased.

My lovely cats have been nearly housebound because they are scared of the dog. They've been with me for 2 months and have only ever known the dog being there. Any ideas if/how longit will take for them to realise they won't get chased if they step onto the roof?
