Im not sure how many of you guys donate to animal charities but i donate to the RSPCA when i can. I received a letter from the cruelty department yesterday stating that the cruelty figures have gone up at an alarming rate 🙁

I often have letters from them say every 2 or 3 months asking me to donate money and i know they receive no government funding and i understand that they need to get the message accross but they do it in such a harsh way that every time i read one i end up angry and in tears 🙁

Yesterdays letter for example had a story about a jack russel puppy that had been left with friends of the family.. the two men in their 20's beat it with an axe and a spade and shoved a sharp instrument down its throat. They enclosed a picture of an axe!!

i feel like i am being bullied to donate. As you know im a huge animal lover and i want to try and help them as much as possible but it doesnt feel right. is it just me being a complete pushover or does anyone else have this problem???

XF x

RE: Letters from the RSPCA

Dont get me started on the RSPCA XF! If you look at their figures they have a heck of a lot of money yet local RSPCA sanctuaries have to do all of their own fundraising, I think one closed down a few months back because of lack of money. Its disgusting.

I think the shock tactics they use are disgraceful, but like so many other charities it seems to be the way they are going. Look at this abused animal, abused child, unhealthy heart, the list goes on and on. If you are feeling pressured, why not pop down to your local sanctuary and donate there instead, or maybe donate some food, or walk a dog for them?

Back on to my moan! They have their hands tied by the law I know but I've seen many cases of cruelty that they've just not responded to. Horses lying for days trapped in mud but because he had a bit of hay around him and there was a puddle next to his head they said he had food and water and was therefore being looked after. The horse died a few days later. Of course its a different case if Rolf and the TV cameras are there.

Dont get me wrong, the do do important work. They need more help from the government by changing laws and I think they need to realise why they were set up in the first place.

I sponsor a dog through Dogs Trust and am a member of the RSPCA and I certainly look forward to my Dogs Trust post the most. Must less traumatic getting a nice card from my dog JG telling me all about her boyfriend and incontinence troubles!!

RE: Letters from the RSPCA

yes i agree XF, its got to the stage where i support so many charities i just cant do any more!
i understand they need money, but there are 5 that i give to every month and i still get regular letters from them. what i do now is pay a little extra into my give as u earn charity aid foundation account then every 6 months i have quite a nice little sum to break up and send to my fav ones.

maybe thats worth looking into? if u havent heard of it u can do it through most workplaces and u dont pay tax on it.

RE: Letters from the RSPCA

I used to give and raise money for RSPCA. When I called them recently to tell them about some dogs in distress in my neighbourhood, (they are tied up and left outdoors all day/night in someone's garden) they said they were powerless to act and that we had to contact the council first. The council are "thinking" of getting someone around to the offending house. How long will that take!

I now give my money to rescue centres!

Love

I don't generally give to the RSPCA cause I don't like charities which spend money on marketing instead of doing their job. Prefer to give to little places that are struggling to cope with the pets they have.

I also heard some rather disturbing reports of their board being 'infiltrated' by certain people wanting to change the anti foxhunting view of the RSPCA. I obviously have no idea whether this is true or not. They have some fantastic, caring people working for them but I not longer give them money. I have had a number of disagreements with them over whether they should become involved (I thought they should, they thought not). I now give to individual animal sanctuaries.

There are a number of other animal charities I would love to give cash to (VIVA, PETA, etc) but just cant stand to look at their websites/leaflets. Much as I think they are worthy causes I have enough sleepless nights without looking at such horrific material.

Have any of you contacted any of these rescues like the RSPCA to tell them why you have stopped giving them money?..if not maybe we should..?
