I've been out in our garden, along an alley at the back, up to the field at the end of our row of houses with Eliza on a lead. She heard a dog and got very frightened. Laurence, already sitting in the field, ran after the dog, that was thankfully on a lead.
Eliza is recovering from her mauling, but since the attack, her back leg is not working properly and I'm not sure it is going to get much better than it is now. She'll limp and not be able to run, jump and climb as before.
How do I stop Laurence befalling the same fate? He has no fear of dogs, despite being around while Eliza was attacked.
I'm so worried. Any ideas?
RE: How do I stop Laurence chasing dogs?
With cats, there is very little you can do if they go out on their own, they like to explore and do their own thing. The best advice is don't worry as they will be picking up on your fear and worry. Also, the probability of two cats being attacked by dogs is not very high.
Was Eliza on a lead when she got attacked?

ORIGINAL: Was Eliza on a lead when she got attacked?
Hi Rosi,
No, Eliza wasn't on the lead then. She is only on it now as she wants to go outside SO badly, but still hasn't got used to how her rear leg works now. She still gets caught on flowerpots and things and I have to "unhook" her. Where she usually goes there are lots of trees and walls and fences, I know, from seeing her try while out on the lead, that she is not ready to tackle these things yet physically.
Her walking is improving, especially outside, and she even had a little tinkle in the flower bed yesterday, something I know she's been missing!
I know in my heart that I can't stop Laurence chasing things when he is outside. I go SO worried, because he didn't back off even when the dog had seen him and looked interested.
They are both such outdoors cats and enjoy running around in the big green space that we have around where we live. I just want to make sure that they are safe outdoors cats, and I want to make sure that I am being a responsible cat parent in asking if there is, anything, that I could do.
I guess that when you have such strong characters like Laurence and Eliza, there are downsides to it too. I will make sure that they both have as much freedom to enjoy themselves and live there cat lives to the full. I just wish they weren't such dare devils as I don't think my heart can take much more!

I understand - cats eh, they are into everything and it is only natural that we wish to protect them from any harm but at the same time they have a mind of their own.
Do try not to worry as they will pick up on the fact that you are worrying about them. Also, how about placing them in a protective bubble of white light whenever they go out, that will help to keep them safe.
Have you thought about giving Eliza some flower essences, Star of Bethlehem and or Rock Rose, this will help with the fear of the experience of being attacked by a dog, and also will help to remove some of the trauma she went through.

You know I always forget that I can use Reiki in many ways. I always seem to be sending healing, but of course, I can do the protective bubble! 🙂

I like this idea too. She does seem quite brave and wants to go out exploring her usual haunts, but when she hears dogs, she panics.
How would I give a flower essence to her and how much when? I'm a bit concerned about the safety aspects of treating animals as it's not in my realm expertise.

I know. They are SO receptive. The other night, I felt quite poorly, and Eliza, unusually for her, came and sat in arms reach with me on the bed and didn't move till the morning. I am trying to give out good caring vibes rather than panic pants vibes. I am trying, honest 🙂
I've just got Laurence in for the night and he and Eliza are geared up from some serious play. Laurence is sitting in his favourite purple sparkley gift bag (left over from Christmas) with one paw stuck out playing with a ball, and Eliza is sitting eyeing up a upturned cardboard box that had been full of crinkley brown and pink paper (another Christmas left over). They both love pouncing on things and diving under the paper........... Actually, Laurence has just bypassed the paper and gone straight to batting the cardboard box! You can imagine what my living room looks like!!!!
Got to go, cats to play with.....:D

Hi Nicky,

Flower essences are perfectly safe and there are no side effects. If an animal doesn't need them, the essences will simply bounce of them.
I would recommend that you place 4 drops of each essence in their drinking water every day for about a month. That way both Laurence and Eliza can drink the water, because whilst Laurence wasn't attacked animals are sensitive to their kind being hurt, and as he was also there, he may have a little trauma also.
Feel free to ask if you have any more questions about the essences.
