Hello Guys

I am interested in making some dog biscuits. I find the ones you can buy in the shops are filled with allsort and with christmas coming up I thought people might like some good treats.

I am not a great cook but am willing to try, however some of the recipes are from the USA so I`m not too sure what some ingreients are or if I can get them. You guys are usually so helpfull I thought I`d ask if you could help me.

I would like some basic biscuit recipes for dogs. (meat free and wheat free gratefully accepted)[sm=dogrun.gif]

Wheat Free

1/2 cup cornmeal
2 cups white rice flour
6 tablespoons safflower oil
2/3 cup water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix all ingredients together well.
Roll out to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutter.

Bake 35 to 40 minutes.

Let cool and store in tightly sealed container. For extra flavor you could add a couple of tablespoons of grated carrot or apple, a few teaspoons of brown sugar, or a teaspoon of garlic powder

Another wheat free

1 cup oatmeal
1 cup rye flour

Combine oatmeal, 3/4 cup of the rye flour, sugar and butter together.
Slowly add the milk till a firm but slightly sticky dough forms. Scrape out dough onto a wooden board or counter.

Knead in the rest of the rye flour till the dough stiffens a little. Wrap in saran wrap and chill for one hour.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll out dough till 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes ( I like to use scotty dog cutters). Place on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake for 15 minutes.

Turn off oven and let biscuits rest
till cool in oven with the door closed. Store in air-tight container for up to 2 weeks.

RE: Home made dog biscuits

They are great Fiona, especially the tuna one, thats what I was looking for.

I assumed you could use wheat free flour ( i have loads for my son) and then I thought it would be adding things like fish pate or something like it. I would make some up but as I said I`m not much of a cook.

I`ll let you know how I get on making them.;)
