Please please someone help!

I think Bella has fleas!!!! [:o][:o]
(shhh....shes very touchy about the word 'fleas' - who can blame her!!)

Was giving her a bath today and afterwards i was blow drying her i noticed some parts of her skin were very red and sore looking, and as i looked closer i could see loads of tiny tiny brownish black specks on her! almost like dirt.

I Came online and looked it up and i cant actually decide 100% if its fleas (shhh!) or not.

She didn't get her flea drops last time she was at the vet so it possibly is 🙁

Anyway, best bet i know would be to go to the vets, but at the moment have no transport to get her there, [&o] so was going to look online for ''flea killer''
Then though someone here might be able to offer a more healthy natural approach. 😮 Also any ideas what to spray the house with would be great!!

Dont think i will sleep tonight with the thought of fleas in my house. UGH [:'(]

She's a 16 month old maltese
(with a heart murmur-incase various oils could effect it?)

Thanks anyone for any help

RE: Fleas?? UGH!

Hi Doogle

Thanks for that, yes some of the marks on her do look a little like dried blood actually, this was why i had first thought they were bites. [&:]

We do have new carpets down in the hall and bathroom. However they have beend own for 2 or 3 weeks now and the marks on her skin only came last friday.. i was thinking if it was a reaction etc they would of been visible sooner?

Our weathers rainy again this week, but for the last 3o weeks its been lovely, Bellas learnt how to roll over on the grass (she used t have a fear of being on her back [&:]) so i suppose she could easily of picked something up doing that.

I will let u know how we get on anyway

Thanks again [sm=hug.gif]

If your still worried about parasites - I use diatomaceous earth. Its a powder. Only use 'food grade'. It can erritate the lungs, so I try sprickling with a little water so as it's slightly damp (not as likely to form clouds of dust that way) . Apply it directly onto coat. I use it on my bed if there is a hint of fleas, and nothing terrible has happened to me;)Look it up perhaps it can help? 'food grade' has been added to food for nutrients, and to rid internal parasites.

Hot spots are hand & hand with fleas (maybe lice/mites too) The little specks may be eggs or bits of blood. Hard to say with out seeing. Try keeping her off the carpet. Have you used a spray on the lawn or any place else? Even a bug killer / chem-cleaner? I stay away from non-holistic vet flea tick stuff a.k.a. frontline. Such things are piosons no matter how diluted. Placing it on the skin which is then absorbed into the blood. Just doesn't bode well with me.

Have patience you'll figure it all out![sm=idea.gif]

[&:] Please breeze over mis-spellings - I'm getting sleepy!

Let me Know,

Hello everyone [sm=wave.gif]

I just wanted to thank you all very very VERY much for all your help, time and patients on the 'flea' subject! [sm=banghead.gif]

Bella seems to be fine again now and her skin is back to normal, im still not sure what it was that caused it but i am guessing that it was not fleas after all <phew>

It was most probably an allergy or something she had picked up when lying on the grass outside, could even have been midge bites a suppose (we certainly get plenty of them up here) and i can imagine they would all get caught up in her long coat and bite her like crazy! [sm=scratchchin.gif]- poor bella.

Anyway, just wanted to say thank you again to all of you who helps out and offered advice! [sm=hug.gif]

Hi Fiona

Just wanted to say I have a Bichon Frise very similar to your Maltese.

She is suffering at the moment and it is not fleas. Every year about this times she generally gets the itches and I think it is due to allergens which gradually subside.

September is the main flea time and she gets and allergic reaction to the flea bites, so in August, although I am not particulary in favour of it, I give her a dose of Stronghold to keep the blighters at bay. If I don't, she gets so distressed and rips out handfuls of her fur so it is the lesser of the two evils, in my opion.
