My 12 year old Bichon is poorly.

We have this little routine in the morning. When I get up she barks her head off till I throw her a chewy up the hall.

I did this yesterday as usual but running to the chewy she squealed then rushed to her basket and has hardley come out since.

If she is no better by the morning it is a trip to the vets.

However all you people with special powers, I would really appreciate some of the good vibes coming her way to make her feel better.

Thank you very much.

Has she pulled a muscle? Have you seen her walking since? I'm getting left front paw?

Reiki on its way xx

Thank you Doogle for your Reiki. It appears to have done something at least.

She bucked up a bit this afternoon and drank water although she has eaten much. She's been out for a walk.

Hubby decided to still take her to the vet. After relieving him of nearly£100 the vet reckons she has a virus. She has had a lot of dogs in with the same symptoms.

Still not herself though so are just hoping she will be better tomorrow.

Thank you Rosi

Not quite out of the woods yet.

This morning while I was upstairs she yelped. Hubby reckoned he saw one of her little dry biscuits by the door and now it was gone. Hubby convinced she has trouble with her teeth. It did appear that she initially wanted to eat, then after a mouthful or two ran and hid.

I was slightly cross, that the vet when examining her, did not look in her mouth nor her ears. I would have thought that would be automatic procedure for examining a dog when the cause of a malaise isn't particularly evident. I had words with the vet and told her of my dissatisfaction and she just said the dog wasn't keen on having her mouth touched.

Anyway I was back down there today, (at least she didn't try charging me for another consultation - I didn't intend to pay). She couldn't see any bad teeth but then she couldn't really get a good look in her mouth and said maybe she had hurt her throat and that was the problem.

Her temperature has now gone back to normal and she is eating soft food such as minced steak, pichards and some of our organic chicken we had for dinner, she never normally dines on such rich fare. I am giving her antibiotics and if she isn't better then and exploratory will follow.

Hi Rosi

No she doesn't eat those chews, but I see where you are coming from there.

She is now a lot better and more or less her old self other than she'll eat a mouthfull of food then run off, but return quite soon to have more.

I've been told her liver readings are slightly elevated. Does anyone know what this means. The vet has told me we can come in and discuss this and maybe do a scan which she has already told us would cost £150.

Call me an old cynic and call me tight fisted. I am always terribly suspicious of vets. I am not suggesting they have made this up but I do think any treatment is money to them and if they can get your pet on some costly maintenance treatment then they will. For all I know her reading could have always been high, she's never had a blood test before I don't think. Also could they be high because she was ill.

I treat my pets the same way I treat myself. 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' Yes, if I thought she was in pain then I would be straight down there, but at the moment she seems fine.

Sometimes you can spend untold money just to have the inevitable happen.

RE: Doggy off colour

Little update on my dog. The vet told me her liver readings were very poor as I said. He said it could be getting old, an infection or worse cancer. I have been giving her the vitamins the vet gave me and also I read cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed oil can be helpful if cancer is present so she has been having that each day.

I cannot say and neither can he, what was actually wrong with her, we take her back in December for a review, however what I can report is, she is like a new dog at the moment (fingers crossed it continues) she is running about and looking alert and so different to a month or two back.

Great to hear your good news, orangeblossom. Let's hope she continues to make progress. She's obviously not wanting for love and care, anyway! 🙂

Laura.
