Dog rescue societies - breed and general

Here is a link to a site which gives details of dog rescue/welfare organisations, both breed specific and all breeds of dogs generally. It seems to be very comprehensive and, in the case of my own breed, up to date information is given, as far as I can tell.

In their own words:

"Breed-rescue societies concentrate on a single breed and are often associated with a breed club. Most won't have dedicated kennels and may rehome directly from the previous owner. Selecting a breed will take you to the listing page.

Due to the voluntary nature of breed-rescues, contact details may be subject to change.

Rescue organisations that rehome all breeds of dogs are listed separately by region."

OTHERS:

"Cinnamon Trust is the specialist national charity for elderly or teminally ill people and their companion animals."

The Dogs Trust:

here's an add-on, kindly posted by Muriel in another thread:

As its name suggests, this organisation works to rescue and rehome older dogs, by fostering and working with other rescues.

If anyone has any other sanctuaries/rehoming centres they would like to place here for future reference, please feel free to.

I know this is only useful for those in South Africa, but you may also want to support this organization. It links all the animal rescue societies in Cape Town. It's called The Animal Trust.

EDITED to correct link & update website status 5.8.07

Reply to all:

I have tidied up this thread, mainly the first post I made which lists a number of Dog Rescue Organisations.

I have also removed afew posts, but they were all mine and superfluous. I have not removed anyone else's.

Renewed thanks to all who have posted here. If you think there are any other organisations which could be added, please post a link to their website.

Hi, is it ok to add to this thread? I hope so ...

I would like to recommend the Refuge animal welfare forum, which is used by various rescues to rehome dogs and also has raised a lot of money for various rescues. If it's ok to post the link, it's:

Hello ReikiAnge

It's fine to add to the thread, and belated thanks for posting. 🙂 I've now added links to the starter post of this thread.

As this is a "sticky" resource thread, other posts have been moved to a new thread

It was me who wandered off the topic in the first place 😮

RSPCA Veterinary clinic

Hi

My wife runs an RSPCA clinic, it complements the PDSA well as they both take different benefits so normally if one will not accept you, the other normally will.

I go regular to see the animals at my local dog and cat shelter in Newcastle Upon Tyne. When we called in on Sunday it happened to be their fun day, which was EXCELLENT. People could take their dogs along too. There were stands and stalls. Very enjoyable. There were loads of people and all the animals were getting loads of attention.
