Hey everyone 🙂

We are looking to go for a day trip (or long weekend) down to somewhere like Weston to sample some beach life, ice-cream and seaside fish n chips!

We would like to take our 2 dogs and ideally let them have a run on the beach. We did this once on an enclosed beach in Wales on a rainy day and they loved it!

I know some beaches do not allow dogs, especially in the summer. Do you know of any quiet beaches around (not necessarily Weston) that would be suitable? Ideally a beach safe, away from roads and that you have to climb down to where they can't run off!

Thanks

Ceredigion Bay has some lovely secluded beaches that are considered almost secret like Tresaith, but it also has some cheesy seaside ones on a small scale such as Aberporth (and I think New Quay allows dogs, but I'm not sure).
That area's my speciality, so I'm sorry I can't help you on a broader basis!

This should do you, Jas: Brean Sands is a seven mile long beach and from what I remember (admittedly I was there 20 years ago) should tick all your boxes.

caveman, did you mean Weston-super-Mare on the north Somerset coast, or Weston on the south Devon coast?

I was looking online earlier and found the same website as did sunanda, but a different page, listing a number of beaches:

actually there are two pages on that link, and there are further links in the right side bar to Devon beaches, if that's what you meant.

This one lists restrictions, if any, on dogs on beaches in Somerset:

Generally, it is said that Somerset beaches are dog-friendly because of the mud at low tide. Presumably mummies don't want their little darlings ... of the human variety ... covered in mud, whereas the dogs can have a quick hose down? 😀

Enjoy anyway ... wherever you go 🙂

Everyone, thanks for your help!

Yes I was talking about Weston Super mare and those links are very handy. Although they have only been twice, they love to splash in the sea - it makes them go bonkers! It's just they aren't brilliant at always coming back when we call, so it needs to be away from roads and as enclosed as possible. As dogs though they are harmless, the only problem being to humans too many licks! 😀

Great links, I'll show Carly and hopefully we can have a safe day out!

If you go to Google Maps and key in Weston Super Mare, and go for satellite view, then zoom about a bit, you should get a pretty good idea of roads etc

It may be that sunanda's suggestion of Brean may be the better choice for the dogs, and you'll find it just by scrolling down [south].

Weymouth in Dorset is very dog friendly - they have the whole of the main beach from end of September til May, even during the summer season they still have some of the beach to run and play on 🙂 Not only is there the beach but there are some lovely walks along the Coastal Pathway which runs along side of Chesil beach.
