I love snorkeling - it is my passion in life and second best is being in the sea. A few years ago, we went to Penang - wonderful hotel, wonderful gardens, wonderful beaches (well, probably the snorkeling wouldn't have been so great there) but, we weren't allowed in the sea at all, because of jelly fish. What a blow!
I remember walking past a huge Portuguese Man of War washed up on the beach. Well, I thought it was huge, but have a look at these - one of the Christian Science Monitor's series of photos, which I'm really enjoying:

They certainly are beautiful, Judy. Once more you've awakened memories of India: some years back I used to spend time each year in Amma's ashram in India. To reach the ashram you have to cross a fairly wide river, usually in a shallow boat. At a certain time each year the river becomes full (and I mean full) of jelly fish. While not as large as those in the photos, I remember their ethereal beauty. It was always lovely to look over the side of the boat (and we were very low in the water) and see these amazing creatures all around.

These pictures look fascinating! Very nice! Thank you for sharing, Judy.
A sideline story: I once ate Jellyfish without my knowledge in Shanghai... I thought they were rice noodles as they they looked as such :dft008:
The chinese man sitting next to me then asked me If I enjoyed the Jellyfish! 😮

Love your jellyfish pics, they are indeed beautiful, though perhaps are not the cuddliest species 🙂
I used to work in a zoo aquarium years ago, we only had freshwater tanks at the time though which was somewhat disappointing.

Gosh Sunanda,
You have had some amazing experiences in India! 🙂
Having only seen jellyfish when I'm in the water, I haven't really stopped to enjoy their beauty, but yes, those photos are amazing. I had no idea they could grow so huge!
Zimba - what did jelly fish taste like? Oh yes, I guess rice noodles! i would have thought they might be more fishy!

Used to live at the Barrier-Reef Australia, When swimming we used pantyhose for protection against Blue-Jelly-Fish>They surely can give a sting, looks a bit funny on a guy, but it did the job, lol

Hello Judy,
It did taste, well, best way to describe it like water, I guess. Not fishy at all. The texture was quite chewy, which I found strange for rice noodles.
It was just the way they were cut in tiny stripes.

I like the look of them but I have never been close to one.
I hate it when I get stung by one, but they are truly amazing to look at...
