oh no 60 kittens and 24 cats will be put to sleep on weds in newton abbot because of the credit crunch. unless they find homes so if anyone wants a cat or kitten please go there and rescue one or two or several.
that shows how important for them to be spayed and neutered.
dailymail link. dont know how to put it in there,

Hi,
I feel dreadful when I hear of animals being put to sleep because of the credit crunch.
I'm a dog owner - a great dane. He costs £10 a week to feed. But I know that I could still feed him good food for £4 a week. He eats 1 kilo of food a day. A cat or a small dog will eat considerably less.
If our dog were really ill and needed veterinary treatment, which I were unable to afford, I know the PDSA would not turn away a sick animal.
How many of those people who have given up their animals are really suffering from credit crunch? How many simply don't want to give up their pub visit on a friday night or their expensive tobacco habit? We make choices....if we truly love our animals then we will look after them and make sacrifices to do so.
I know there will be some people who really can't afford to keep their animals, but how many are using the credit crunch as an excuse???
Kind regards,
Christina
This is awful, I'm a bit surprised other rescues can't step in and take a few 🙁
I would foster a couple of kittens with rescue back up, but sadly too far away realistically.
I agree 100% neutering is the answer. I have rescue friends who work tirelessly to promote neutering and offering to pay/help with costs...yet some owners still won't pick up the phone...easier to let cat have a litter I guess 🙁
Here is the link if anyone is local and can help...

So sad. 😡
It really breaks my heart.
That is terrible, I didnt think dogs and cats were put to sleep anymore unless they were vicious. My local cat and dog shelter have loads of pets in and I go along regular. I'm keeping my eye out for another dog and plan to get it from a rescue centre as I did my last one. I have noticed an increase in bigger dogs, rottweilers, mastiffs etc and presumed this to be down to the credit crunch.
I know dogs can be seen to be expensive but you cant put a price on the unconditional love and affection you get in return.
