I have taken up the challenge of clicker training our puppy Toby. I tried it with our older dog who is now 4 last year but shes so laid back etc she just couldnt be bothered with it lol.

Although Toby is still a wee puppy i can tell that he is going to be a handful, he gets bored very easily and wants to be doing interesting things all the time. He loves the garden he's a right old explorer 😀

I just wondered if any of you had tried clicker training and what were the results like? I will keep you posted on his progress lol

RE: Clicker Training

I clicker trained Kite to play frisbee with me! Does that count? Actually I've clicker trained him to do lots of things. For food orientated animals it works wonders.

Clicker training is great fun, especially for animals that have lots of energy! I'm sure Toby will love it. Let us know how you get on!

RE: Clicker Training

I used clicker training for my older dogs to teach them moves for heelwork to music and found it worked a treat. The last puppy we kept has been solely clicker trained and she loves it. As soon as she knows I have the clicker she is there wanting to please for her treats. She has been practising her show moves and stands well and moves with great enthusiasm and I'm sure the clicker helps with that. An excellent book is Click to win by Karen Prior, you can get it at crosskeys books.
Having labs they all love food so perhaps that helps! From now on I will always use a clicker as they seem to learn very fast and learn to think for themselves.
It makes training fun for them which is the main priority as far as I am concerned.
I got a "multi clicker", it has a strap for round your wrist, very handy when you are trying to hold a lead and find the goodies, and you can adjust the volume, which is handy for classes as you dont disturb the other dogs with it at the lowest setting. Mind you mine now has Chino teeth marks on it so will have to get a new one soon!

OK I have been clicker training Toby the Terror for roughly a week now and he has learnt to sit on command without clicker or treats so i am VERY impressed with him so far.. and he is half-way to doing "paw" not bad for 9 weeks old i have to say 🙂

RE: Clicker Training

I use a clicker to help with competitive obedience with my lurcher. It works a treat...
