I never thought I'd start to dislike these birds...but I have:o, I only used too see the odd one around here but now theres loads of them with their eeeerie squeel...beautiful to watch I have to admit, but theres lots of trees where I live and the sounds of song birds from morning till dusk was one of the things I loved....but these last few months the song birds have been very quiet...infact I rarely hear them. I also worry about my rabbits playing in the garden, someone told me that buzzards can even get cats:eek:...not sure if thats true tho

Yeah, we've noticed there's a lot more buzzards around lately. Nature will do what it does in due course, the old fox and hare thing, so I'm sure populations will fluctuate back the other way too. 😉

Hi AJ

Being a country bumpkin, I see the Buzzard as a means of controlling the wild rabbit population, rabbits being a pest.

Of course I do empathise for the care of your pet rabbits. I never heard of a pet taken by a buzzard, though I wouldn't be surprised.

Best Wishes

RP

Our cat does that for our local community. No need for buzzards. 😉

We always know when Buzzards are nearby.....they get my chickens in a right fluster...all stand together (security in numbers ;)), and look in the direction of said bird..while they squawk holler!

We live in the middle of nowhere (well, Fife!) and a sage neighbour told me that the song birds are not so 'vocal' during the summer months, as they mainly sing to attract mates - the local RSPB bloke backed this theory up too. We have lots of buzzards around - and I have also seen ospreys and sea eagles this summer - fantastic!

I love going for a walk in our local park & seeing the buzzards flying around - we even have a white one that I like to keep an eye open for! 🙂

hi Amelia jane.
theres two main types of buzzard that are native to the UK. Theres a honey buzzard that feeds mainly on insect and the normal named buzzard. The normal buzzard will take a small mammal like a rabbit or small cat.
the honey buzzad has a spotted chest with thick plummage on its face resembling a pigeon.
the normal buzzard is darker overall without a spotted chest. i hope this helps.
